Do you like the new format???

If you haven't already noticed, reread and listen to the tone of Grumpy's posts - much like a Dad having to patiently tell his young son or daughter that we're moving away to a new house and home far away from the old one. I for one appreciate his restraint.

I'll see what Wardsweb has been up to in a few, assuming he's had any free time to post.
I really wouldn't blame him if he shut it down a while instead of having to listen to all the BS.

This is an opertunity for us all to work togeter helping each other learn the site. All the while behind the seens they are working everything out the best they can get it, this site will evolve from here if we are all constructive together.

Is anyone reading wardsweb and my responses ? Sure seems like not...

Grumpy
Not yet, but an easy way is to click on Grumpy's name and click on his number after Messages - that will give you all his posts to view.

This answers one of my questions (how to find someone else's posts). Thanks and thanks for aggregating a lot of the comments and responses.

The small gray text is very hard to read even with my screen set on max. Having a reply box already in place has kind thrown me a bit. Flashblock has stopped numerous little spots that I have yet to look at. I'm sure I will get used to it.

I'm getting used to it, (same as recapping a pair of speakers). I do agree, it IS a little bright.

No tapatalk is a big bummer for me as far as liking the new setup. All I use is the new posts button, so all the new doodads don't matter to me. I have very little time to check in and tapatalk was quick and easy. Using a browser takes too much time. I'll check it out, but it is a bummer. I do like the like button though.

That all being said, I do appreciate why you guys had to move on from our old tried and true VB. I also appreciate all the work you guys are doing.

I'm gettin' more and more used to it and am finding new features that are really handy like the "alerts" at the top of the page.
'Tis a pity, all my old photos aren't showing up on here (around 2,700.00 - now they're just shown as an X in a tiny blank box). But that doesn't matter as I've still got 'em all stored on Photobucket.

Many thanks for all the hard work, not to mention time and effort it must've took... It really is appreciated!

For those needing a larger font, you can temporarily increase the size of everything by going to your browser and increasing the magnification to 110%, 125% or 150% or some custom value if possible - all browsers can do this. 125% for me gave a nice increase without killing the # of posts visible too much - 150% was great from a readability standpoint, but you gotta scroll a lot.

Less effective is increasing overall browser font size - that's hit and miss depending on how the webpage is constructed and font size is handled. In Chrome, that didn't seem to have much effect on post font sizes.

I'm confident there will be font, size, and display color options in the near future.

It's pretty ugly. The format is ineffecient, less information is displayed per page and the layout is cluttered and tacky, I probably won't spend much time here anymore. Mind you I don't expect anyone to actually care, but the layout discourages me from reading the forum. I don't think my opinion is going to change because of some font choices or background colors, either. I spent most of my time on AK browsing and reading, and now it's irritating to look at. Things change I suppose, for better and for worse.

It takes time to get used to anything new! Think of it like this! Would you complain if you got a new woman every two years ! It took me literally ten min to get my self situated and understanding the new site.. Kind of like women!

Jesus, it's like people aren't even reading anything...

... maybe a giant flashing "BE PATIENT, WE'RE WORKING ON IT. ALL OF IT." message in the AK banner might help??

Better, maybe. IMO, surely it was what you and I were used to and familiar with. Sort of like an old flip phone that we really knew how to use. You know, pushing buttons sequentially to input alphanumeric info, a tiny 1.5" screen that showed phone numbers great, and maybe a few texts. yeah, it could get to the internet...kinda...sorta. It made really good phone calls though. We didn't need anything else. Really.

Now we've been given an iPhone. Its different, its new, its unfamiliar, it has no DAMN keyboard!! I wanna go back!! Slowly, surely, after you play with it (because we don't read the owner's manual) and ask others (AK community again!) it will start to become useful, options will appear or be turned on, all your contacts will be migrated, etc., and then the full power of this battlestation will become....uh, sorry, got lost there...the full power of the new forum software will become more evident.

Patience, patience, and more patience, please. Please! In the world where we seem to deride everyone else for "instant gratification", sure seems like a lot of us (mostly older folks) aren't demonstrating the virtue of patience for everyone. What happened to our ability to roll with the punches, gracefully handle things when life throws us a nasty curve ball? We're better than the tone that some have given on this and other threads - yes, emotionally its understandable to be uncomfortable, even upset. But an AK mantra is "All Audio, No Attitude". A corollary is civil discourse, one we can all practice here, even if its just to choose words carefully.

We're guests here in Grumpy's home, and Wardsweb and all the admin / moderator staff are the caretakers and grounds-crew, electricians, IT mavens, plumbers, trash collectors, and housecleaners - all behind the scenes. Please give them encouragement, time to do their work, constructive criticism and feedback, and above all, some thanks for providing us a HOME where we can gather and COMMUNICATE with each other.

I think that's about right, time is the key, and as stuff gets done, more solutions, options, and answers will appear, choices will be offered, and adjustments by users will be made.

Well said. Let's all show a little patience and try to learn as things develop. Already just a couple days into this new format, and I'm seeing things better. I can't wait to be able to customize the look!

Yep give it a little time and the eyes adjust and know where to look for things. Defalts have changed text and people can modify some of it themselves. Like your signatur is very small and light gray but you can make it large, and colors and bold.

I kinda like it...it doesn't jump out at you, you know; subdued. :)

That's what I did right away, mine is set at 150% to view the screen at 6' away.

I know and thats fine, but that's the text size and color I can't really see at all. I would have to put reading glases on and get close to the screen to see what you have, so yeah it doesn't jump anywhere.

Good point.
I discovered that the user can add ALOT more info, just now! I'm going to play with it a little. :D
