Do you like the new format???

I have received a few email updates, and I like the new email update format, when clicking on the links in the email update it does take me to the tread, but I am not logged in even though I am logged in on the main site. This is not an issue if I just want to read the post, but if I want to reply, I must log in again.

Just took another look and the most recent email update for me is from yesterday.

Maybe this is just a short term glitch, I hope so. If not this will be a real pain in the neck when one is involved in a thread.

BTW, I do stay logged in when using a link from on of the old style email notifications.

The picture below is a screen shot taken from my email client, MS Outlook, for anyone that has not seen the new email notification format.

I do not like the "like" button and the trophy count. This a a forum where we share and help, not a popularity contest. Put the post count back and get rid of the trophies.

If not, please like me so I can get my trophy count up. Thanks-like you all.

I have not changed any settings and getting email notifications. Make sure, the email server you are on, does not send the AK notifications to the spam bin. The notifications do look like spam....
Its because they don't have a RDNS to the mail sending server and that is a SPAM NO-NO 101

I just wish there was a easier way to collate all these gripes rather than say the same things over and over.

Like a known issues thread that could be moderated and updated by some lucky Jamoke. I would do it but I am not a moderator and don't want to start another thread people will just post a long set of gripes.

I'd commented elsewhere that I wasn't looking forward to the change based on another forum that made the same change from vB to ZF back in June. Previously, they looked very similar to the old AK.
Here's an example of what that place looks like now.

Those numbers are counting the ads on a single page! Note that there are ads inserted into users posts. It's horrible. Over 3 months later they're still trying to get things working that are already up and running here on AK. Our guys did a great job.

Overall, the new AK features overshadow the minor differences from what we're used to. One neat feature is that if someone adds a post as you're typing a reply, a bar will show up telling you that and you can read them before you finish yours. And picture posting seems to be much simpler than before... right click, 'copy image', then paste where you want it here. Very cool.

FWIW, I'm sort of a Luddite. Still use a Palm PDA, phone that only does phone calls, still using WinXP, still have a few analog TVs. For all the minor gripes people have here, this is great... compared to what it could be.

BTW, those trophies and points don't do anything over there either.

Is there anyway to organize my subscribed (watched) threads? I used to have several categories to organize things so I could find them for reference when I need them. Now everything is just dumped in one big unorganized pile under Watched Threads. I come to this site for the information, NOT to play games with likes and trophies BS. For now this site is almost totally useless!

Haven't read every reply here, but what I really don't like about the new format, is that there is much less visual presence and impact. From our words, and icons or avatars or whatever they're called, to the LPs that are posted - there is a diminshed impact. The whole thing is kind of clinical.

That's part of it. Too beige. All the quote section font is smaller. Have to squint to see it. :) Used to just left click on the avatar to see other posts and send PM. Not now. Signature section is light grey, don't like it.

Well, some of my posts are back-up to about 6 months ago, but the newest ones are now missing. We are getting there. All will be fine in time.

Is anyone reading wardsweb and my responses ? Sure seems like not...

No I don't like it. But like a lot of things in life, particularly with computers, the "new improvements" seldom are. Remember how Yahoo mail used to be when it was blue and yellow?

I suspect that the changes are due to the forum software (if that's what it is called) having been updated. Nothing to do with the administrators or moderators. I've worked in IT, so I know what a task it must have been backing up all this data, and ensuring we had a working forum to open on Monday morning. Kudos to those involved.

Lee.
I agree, to have all this info without any loss, up and running in a weekend was a real challenge, and succesfully solved. I've seen a VERY LARGE forum where the moderator had to post apologize messages about loosing ALL the uploaded images and files. So it's not a trivial task to migrate something like Audiokarma.

YES!!!!! This really needs some organization. I'm sure that the team is working feverishly to resolve these issues, but I haven't seen any communication to keep the users informed.

Deep Six the likes & awards.
Should be easier to see post counts & locations.
Opening anything in a "new tab" does not recognize that I am already logged in.
Screens are too bright, and my eyes are too old.
Cannot see the difference between threads I have 'viewed' vs 'new' threads.
Is there anyway to display "last logged in" info?

KUDOs to the team for updating the forum S/W, but more communication would really help.

Thanks!!!

You haven't read the posts from Grumpy and Wardsweb then. They don't really need to tell you what is being worked on.

Users are not owners....
Your immediate grasp of the obvious is overwhelming!

This is why I requested the location of their feedback.

Some sort of this is being worked on thread would be helpful to the members. You made that sound as if the site admins don't give a crap other than what they are saying. Honestly all my idea was just a way to collate the issues. I know this is needed when updating any system. Heck virtually any update comes with a "Whats New" like for example Microsoft publishing a "Whats Different" between windows 8 and windows 10.

I certainly hope that the admins (Heck I know it is true) are paying attention to the constructive feedback. Many a update has driven away many a community by "Owners" not giving a crap what the "Users" think.

This is why I disagree with your last statement.

And site members don't have to stay or renew ...
but keeping it civilized and keeping it friendly between the web managers and the site members
helps encourage the community to stick around!

All that said, its obvious there was a ton of work inbvolved in standing up a new website forum package that even looks ateeny bit like that tired old VBulletin - I'm willing to give folks a week or so to sort out the worst bugs and get the configuring sorted out!

Kudos atcha guy!

With the old system you had a field you could click on to go the previous thread at the bottom of each page. I don't see it with the new version - can you not do that now?

I'm going to take a look around and see what I do like before I start stating what I don't like. ;)

Things are still happening in the background and will be resolved, these things take time.

Need to be patient! :)
