Does anyone else have RtR Speakers?

I picked up a pair of RtR Series IV Model E, circa 82-83, for $ 45.00. They have same case as model D, but have 10 speakers with 1 radiator. I can find little about these speakers. The speakers fire in three directions and really produce a full warm sound. I acquired these for my retro. vinyl system.

Nice find. I understand the earlier RTR's are better speakers but I love the sound of mine. Been using mine everyday since about 1984.

Yeah, I have. I'm afraid of pulling the trigger on the wrong stuff. I would like to find pre finished veneer. (if they even make that)
 
Any input would be appreciated. There is an auction coming up in my neighborhood that has a set of RTR Series 2-D speakers. If they go low enough and I get them what kind of sound can I expect? Never owned any RTR's before.
 
I have owned several sets of RTR speakers. The 300D towers and currently the PS1 pyramids with two DAC-1 subs. The subs are rated flat response to 20 cycles. They are the real deal. Some of the best conventional speakers I've ever listened to. Love 'em.
 
I just picked up a set of EXP-10V on Craigslist this past weekend. I've been looking for a set for about 10 years to replace some that were ruined in a basement flood. Thankfully, I finally found some for reasonable money in excellent original condition. They even still have the foam over the cone tweeters.
I have built and owned many speakers since the first pair of RTRs, but I find the EXP-10s to excel in bass transient response, and overall are just fun and non-fatiguing to listen to. They are lacking in the mid and treble, but their flaws are due to a lack of clarity rather than anything grating or annoying. I find that the treble control on typical receivers of that era (which reach pretty far down into the midrange) are a good match to compensate for the somewhat scooped midrange. They are also very easy to drive to good levels in a medium sized room.
One really cool thing is that the owner included sales literature on a variety of RTR models from around that time period (late 70's, early 80's). When I get a chance I will scan and post them here.
I'm very glad to have a pair of them again. My parents bought the original pair in the 80's and I didn't appreciate or take care of them like I should have when I was younger. It's like having an old friend back.
 
I just picked up a pair of 300d's with rotted foams and slightly creased mids. The cabinets are in great shape and the grill cloth has almost no tears (didn't look closely yet). They are sitting outside to get rid of that "stored in a small, packrat musty/dusty" smell.

Should I drive 45 minutes and pay $100 for a pair of 100D? They look to be in nice shape. Have not been able to figure out if they're pre or post-BIC after reading seemingly all the RTR threads, but one AK-er in 2008 seemed quite excited about them.
 
Any old bugers out there with RTR s I have #4 EXP-8V. Sound great still looking at speakers all look good and sound good too. I bought them in early to mid 70s maybe 76 for about 100 apiece I think. I did by pass the gadgets ( breaker) wasnt resetting when pushed. Not an issue now. The tone knob is iffy though. Might be a replacement out there? These puppies are heavy, always loved the range. No personallity per say. They do what you tell them.
 
I am thinking about looking at a pair of RtR 180D's that are on the local C:L. In the ad it says rubber surrounds on the 10" alnico woofers, one front firing and one down firing. Since a lot people in this thread have mentioned the foam surrounds rotting out I wonder if they are not the original woofers. Did any of the 180D's have rubber surrounds? One picture of the back shows they can bi-amped with a switch and two pairs of binding posts, one HF pot, circuit breaker reset button and a completely round RtR logo. I wouldn't mind buying them if they had the original drivers.
 
I just looked at mine and they are 8" with rubber surrounds. Very well made and they have walnut veneer.

How much are they asking for them?
 
We sold RTR back in the 70's. And used a few of their 24 " woofers as subs in discos mounted to face into corners with a dance floor on top to make a low frequency horns. They required big power for the time. we used M600 crown power amps.
 
I just picked up a pair of EXP-12's at Goodwill for $12.99 total. Cabinets are marked and scuffed but I have high hopes of sanding them down a bit and making them look good. Water rings from glasses and bottles set on them, etc. The tweeters are toast, but the 12" woofers are perfect. I really don't want to stick a lot of $$ into them so will be hunting for somewhat decent 4.5 inch tweeters that will drop in. May or may not have to modify the crossover at this point. When I saw them, I have to admit I did not know of RTR and I was in the business back in the 70's. See my avatar. Any suggestions for low to medium cost tweeters appreciated. I know some on this forum have gone with the SEAS but really don't want to spend $100 plus.Maybe I'll wait and see how the cabinets clean up first before pulling that trigger. You know how it goes, I really don't need more speakers, especially some big honking ones. Makes the bride a little crazy.
 
I have a pair. They sound nice, and I prefer them to my OLAs and EPI M100s. Are you sure the tweeters are bad? Most of the time it's the circuit breaker on the back. If you haven't already, pull the drivers and check them.
