Does anyone recognize this?

The seller claims it's tube, but it doesn't look familiar to me, and it looks a little modern for tubes. I've already asked for a brand, or model, but I'm curious if anyone here recognizes it.

That is a Pilot receiver. Extremely good sound- it probably is tube. I recall their tubes units looking a touch more modern than I expected.

I've seen that receiver on ebay a few times but I don't recall if it's tubes, SS or hybrid (both). If it isn't too far away it may be worth your while to go look at it and if the owner still has the paperwork, take a look at the schematics or see if they'll let you remove the back and take a look. If you can get the model # for the tuner/pre or receiver, which ever it is, someone here can probably give you more info. I could only make out Pilot from the photo but not the model#.

I heard from the seller, and it's a Pilot 400. It does use 6GW8's.

If you do buy the Pilot, better buy a stash of NOS 6GW8 tubes.
No one is making them anymore.....and the price of those tubes are NOT going down!?

If that is the Pilot 400 it should have 6GW8 OP tubes, and also a couple of 12AX7s, a 12AU7, 12AT7 and a bunch of AM/FM etc tubes; 14 tubes in all. I had the very similar Pilot 500, pics here (click on the image to to enlarge):

IMHO the 6GW8 is a great sounding tube, but as others have pointed out it is becoming harder to find in quantity.

The 6GW8s and the fact that its in a large console are making me think I should let this one go. At $125 it's not a bad deal, but a similar Pilot recently went for less than that on ebay (including shipping).
