I hate asking the "is this console tube" question so instead...
Do you see astrosonic written on this anywhere? :). It looks tube to me and can be had for cheap.

Of course the seller doesn't know and its a 45 minute drive so i would like to be sure

I can usually tell by the color of the TT. The SS ones are almost always black and the tube ones are almost always a cream color. Some of the maggie's throw me off though because they had a goldish TT

As a kid My Dad had one just like that & you would wait just a little before you got sound. Check to be sure. Kind of strange & odd for me to see one after all the years.

I have both a SS and a tube console. Pretty sure that diamond-shaped sticker is going to say "Astro-Sonic" on it.
BTW, both TT look identical. I think its b/c my SS unit is a 62 or 63, so it may have had an old stock Collaro tt.

Oh, sorry, the SS unit has an IMPERIAL Micromatic. My mistake above.

I don't know man, i don't see astrosonic on it. The owner is supposed to send me some pics with the back off

I'm gonna lean more toward tube then.
Since its just a narrow-cabinet player w/no radio and assumed no AUX, you may be able to get a decent deal.

I bought one exactly like that at a yard sale last year. I was expecting tubes, but it turned out to be solid state. It didn't say Astro-Sonic anywhere on it.

Oh, sorry, the SS unit has an IMPERIAL Micromatic. My mistake above.

I had a tube Maggie with a changer marked Imperial Micromatic - it was a Collaro S600 and the amp had Mullards in it.

I've also seen the diamond label on more than one tubey Maggie, so I'm voting tube.

Edited to add: Oops! I see that you covered the Collaro thing when you wrote "I think its b/c my SS unit is a 62 or 63, so it may have had an old stock Collaro tt." My turn to admit to a mistake.

high fidelity is a phrase these consoles stopped having when they went to solid state isnt it? that may not be WHY but, seems like you dont see that on SS, but its on every tube console ive seen, 'high fidelity' even portable record players with tube amps in them say that on them somewhere. (in my experiences anyways)

elitopus, I assume its the one in riverside. I saw the other pictures the seller posted. Man that thing is ugly, and I'm even more convinced it's transistors. Also, Here's an identical unit that was listed on ebay a short while back. Seller identifies it as solid state. Don't waste your gas money if you are looking for a tube unit.

You are right, it is ugly. I would have no problem grabbing that one just for the amp. (If it is tube).
I really try to preserve and restore consoles when i can (i have 4 right now), but not that one
