Dual 1019 start problems

Hey I have just acquired my 1st turntable the dual 1019. The 1st day i got it it worked fine was playing records with ease. That night i went to sleep and woke up keen to play my records one again. I tried to use the start switch but it seemed jammed. I tried to fiddle around with the mechanics underneath and found that when jammed if I move a metal part it seemed to free up the start switch. But when the switch is moved to start the turntable doesn't move. I can hear the motor working and when i moved the plate manually it started the whole automatic process. I cant wait to start collecting hope I hope you guys can help me resolve this problem.

As I said a few minutes ago, this is a complicated little bugger, with no one answer. And NEVER, EVER spray lube into the thing to ease things up. Oh, and look at the brand name on the aluminum trim. How do we spell the name?
There are a few pivot points for under-chassis levers that seize up. We see this all the time on many brands of turntables.
 
@Roman1771 , Are you mechanically inclined? Do you compulsively take things apart for no other reason than to see what's beneath the surface? Do you have no social life?

If you answered yes to all of the above questions, then you have what it takes to get a 1960's era record changer working again...:thumbsup:
 
Do you have no social life? More truth there than you might realize. Hey, don't play Devil's advocate here. Just go with the flow. My flow is Italian ceramic tile. See the humor?
 
It's Dual. Please ignore the duel above. It's a slow night.

Anyway, your DUAL 1019 can benefit from degreasing and relubing all the pivot points underneath. You mentioned moving a plate that started the movement. You could begin there.

Cleaning the old congealed oil or grease can best be done with Qtips and isopropyl alcohol. In some spots it might help to use a flat screwdriver or something to gently scrape away old grease. The service manual is at Vinyl Engine and will show the primary lube points.

A shortcut I have used is to soften stuck pivots by applying heat using a hair dryer or heat gun. Be careful as there are plastic and/or rubber bits that can be damaged if you over do it. Use lower settings for short duration and see how it goes. The parts still need clean and lube but it can show what areas are more critical.
 
Ok ill try that, doesn't it seem a bit weird that the turntable was working and then suddenly wasn't ? If it seized up wouldn't it happen over time.Could it be something to do with the rubber wheel that substitutes the belt on this model.
