Dual 1019

OK, I have a Grado Black on the way from a BT deal. We'll see how it works on the 1019 next week.

I'll look for the Mortite, maybe at Ace Hardware?
 
Love my Dual 1019. I use one of several M91/95ED's I have with an original stylus or a generic, both sound excellent. I want to try the SAS some day. The old Shures are hard to beat on all the 1000 and 1200 series Duals IMO.
I also removed the springs from the chassis and attached it to the base. I added a layer of lead to the inside surfaces and 5 pounds of sand to the base. I can knock on the walnut very firmly and the needle doesn't miss a beat. I have one of those bases with the wooden ends on the dust cover and a particle board bottom.

Got the Grado Black mounted and aligned, VTF set to 1.5 gm. Seems to be a pretty good match, currently tracking a badly warped thrift record perfectly, not even a change in pitch when the arm jumps about 1/4" once per revolution. Nice, full sound.

Having just found a Dual 1219 recently with the Deluxe walnut case, and already having a 1019 and a 502, the last thing I expected to run into was yet another 1019 at an Estate Sale store.

This one was in very nice cosmetic condition, with a nice small walnut veneer base, a multi-play spindle, a vacuum-formed dustcover, and a Pickering XV-15 cart (albeit with a bent stylus).

Tested it out, showed the nice lady that it wasn't fully working (idler slipping, so had to help it start). She knocked 50% off the already low price, and threw in several LP's for free. Not a $4 score like my other 1019, but not a bad score at all.

Cleaned the grime off the idler, which quickly resolved the platter rotation issue. The arm automation is 100% functional on this one! I'll still give it a clean and lube underneath, but this is the first Dual I've bought that was simple to get up and running.

Will the 1019 fit the same cutout as a 1219? May give it a try in the 1219's Deluxe case if so - it looks so much better than the "bubble" dustcover that came with this one.

Good, inexpensive stylus for the Pickering? And which version of the XV-15 is this one? It has a yellow oval-shaped painted dot on the stylus carrier, meaning, I assume, elliptical?

I do not own a 78 capable player that isn't a groove grinding POS.

Did you ever get an answer about the version? My XV-15 looks exactly like yours. The info on my original box says "DCF 400, type AME"

Yep, had the platic protector still on the big metal ring of the platter, so that's pretty much pristine. Trying to decide which base to keep, kinda like the "new" one, but the angled one is a better match for the Empire's base. Haven't actually listened to this one yet, will do that tonite. :smoke:
 
Really nice and clean. I love my 1019. I use it in my bedroom system and my 701 in the living room. That's a great find.
 
I just saw this thread and man all this talk about the 1019 has convinced me to hook up mine to my main rig while my SL-1200 is down for some work. I'll post back with my thoughts of how it stacks up later this weekend.

I find the 1019 to be a LOT quicker and fatter than the SL-1200, but the SL-1200 is more revealing and has better treble. That said, the wires in my 1019 are 40+ years old. I'd like to hear one with a rewired arm.

I got a Dual 1200 headshell from the German guy. He shipped the same day I PayPaled and I got it about ten days later.
 
Pic with its funky "top hat" dust cover. Kinda cute in a way, pretty much unscratched, and quite light. Gonna have to get rid of the other 1019, and either this 1019 or the 1219. The case on the 1219 is (or will be when finished) gorgeous, and I think it's a bit more revered than the 1019, but I may be wrong...

Thing is, this 1019 is 100% functional (except the multi-play spindle), almost like new, and the 1219 will need a bit of work. Which to keep? :scratch2:

I've never seen a base like the one on the left before! The cover is definitely from United Audio, but the base says "Dual" and has a shape I've never seen.

My UA base tapers to the bottom and has the openng for the cables on the right and left sides, not the front and back:

This thread has inspired me to give my 1019 a fresh listen last night. I put a spare Stanton 680 (with an LPGear ViVid Line stylus) on it and fired it up. I had forgotten how good these old beasts can sound! Everything snaps into focus and it has amazing PRAT, really dynamic and attention-getting.

I still need to dial in the alignment a little better (I was getting some IGD), but I think I will keep the 1019 hooked up for a while.
 
Why not. Give the AR a rest. My first "real" turntable was an AR that I bought in 1973. I still really love those old ARs.

Actually, the AR has since been relocated to a different room/system. My 'main' table is now a delihaus-modded SL-1200MK2 - but I will keep the Dual going for a while in this room.
