Dual 1219 Humm issue.

I know this has been talked about before but I thought I would throw these questions out as I'm not quite narrowing it down yet.

The Issues:
When I power up the TT I can hear a humm, more on the left then right, I can readjust the cart and sometimes is goes away other it doesn't. When I start the TT to play a record the hum will disappear. Now if I raise the tone are and touch touch the head shell I get a hum but when I take my had off it stops, this happens when it's engaged to play.

Any thought on where I should look?

Also the classic left channel will cut out sometimes when playing a record, sometimes it comes back sometimes I have to stop and restart it to get it back. It's very random.

TT sounds great though.

It's the contacts on the cartridge sled, and in the head shell on the tone arm. Polish them with metal polish until they're shiny. Clean the excess polish off with 90% or better isopropyl alcohol. If it doesn't work the first time, repeat.
Or, you could get an aftermarket sled from Best Audio.
One more thing--make sure the ground wire is connected to ground on whatever you're playing the turntable through.

Have you cleaned the contacts in the sled and headshell?

As all above have mentioned. Clean the contacts on your head shell and tonearm, then repeat. Next, clean the mute switch, clean again. What type of sled do you have?
Direct contact or spring loaded? If direct contact, I highly suggest upgrading to the spring loaded type. They can be bought on Ebay, but get the injection molded sled as apposed to the 3d printed one.
