I picked up a Dual 1219 couple weeks ago. Seems to work fine. When carrying the box it came in to storage, I heard something rattling inside. Can anybody tell me what this part is for?

Yes. It fits in the counterbalance - the black weight itself. The shaft indexes on that center plastic piece. In the weight itself is a small ball bearing (probably gone) that rides against the outer ribs and "clicks". Each click represented 1/10 of a gram adjustment. Actually tricky to re-install correctly.

I learned something and I have used Dual turntables over 40 years LOL.

Glad my ignorance helped someone else...I think this might be an extra as I removed the weight and can see that piece inside. The TT did come with some extra parts, it's a 1219 with the front that folds down, and has all the accessories.

Glad it's not broken. Very pleased with my 1219<<<<. Part of my Dual family! Need any questions answered I am down the road from you in Kingston. Have an service Manual for a 1229. Tuned up they sound great. Done correctly, they don't need much after. Coming up on three years on the one shown in my avatar. Loose wire on the headshell. Dropped a channel. Cleaned the contacts on it and tightened the contacts, the green wire was loose. Problem solved.

Thanks for the offer! I popped in a Shure V15 Type IV and it sounds great!

Those fold down doors on the plinth are highly coveted. I would like one myself. Never able to snag one.

Whew, you had me scared! I'm glad the 1219 is working out for you!

I was lucky to find a nice 1219 with a fold down front plinth in Ottawa a few years ago. I kept it and sold off my 1229Q instead. I don't have all the accessories that fit in place there so will have to look out for them.
