Greetings all!

we’ve all been there. Arguing with armchair scientists on the inter-web. Just today I had one gentlemen try to convince me that you can miniaturize bass wavelengths by turning the gain on those frequencies down.

This got me thinking. What’s the most blatantly dumbest thing someone has ever said in an audio argument/discussion?


In the meantime I’m going to miniaturize some bass frequencies so I can make a fully horn loaded sub that fits in the palm of my hand. I’ll let you guys know how it goes.

Miniaturize as in reduce the difference between the peaks of the crests and troughs, (i.e., reduce the amplitude), sure.

As for reducing the wavelength...
 
At a car audio store ......
Me: Do you have any RCA cables ?
Staff : How many watts does your amp has ?
Me : hmmmmm.... I obliged and wanted to find out where it would lead to and responded "800 watts"
Me : Why do you asked ?
Staff: The wire thickness depends on the power of the amp, how many watts does your speaker have?
Me: (Could not control my laughter ) I said "1100 watts"
Staff : grabs an RCA cable and ask another staff, will this work for an 800 watt amp and 1100 watt speaker ?
Staff 2: Yes, that should work.
At this point, I stopped laughing and I explained to them that RCA cable has nothing to do with how strong the amp or the subwoofer is
Right now I am wondering, what would happen if I asked I needed an RCA cable for my 3000 watt amplifier and 2000 watt subwoofer
 
Was told once by a sales-type that "the bigger the speaker; the better the sound".

I just smiled and walked away. I might have been shaking my head the time.

"One tube watt is louder than one solid state watt".

Told to me by a know-it-all at my old job with 68 Camaro eyes (too close together). I caught him out one other time before concerning music and what artist did what song. It made me wonder what else he said that was wrong.
 
Setting: Rudy's Tavern on General's Highway in Annapolis, Md. sometime in the mid 1980s. Stopped in to meet my friend Kerry for a pizza and a couple pitchers. As we're sitting there we ( and everyone else in the bar honestly) notice an apparently very attractive, scantily clad, well built woman sitting at the bar with some dude. The girl keeps looking over at our table for some reason. More time passes, scanty girl and her guy get up to leave and as she's passing our table she points at Kerry's motorcycle helmet sitting upside down on the table and with a mouth full of horribly crooked teeth utters "I thought that was popcorn !!". Oy....
 
I'm still pissed at the guy who was working behind the counter at Main Street Records in Northampton, MA in 1984 who told me Brewing Up with Billy Bragg was "The Sgt Peppers of the 80's" as he convinced me to buy the cassette. I couldn't afford more than one or two music purchases a month at the time. I never liked the cassette. (The Saturday Boy was getting a lot of airplay on WRSI at the time, which is what drew me to it.
