Well, I turned HBOmax on again recently, so I guess I'll keep it until Dune arrives ...

In theaters and streaming exclusively on HBO Max October 22

I'm looking forward to this too. Just disappointed that's it's a first half, and not a complete film adaptation of the novel.

Also, I've read that the director wants to focus on the Zendaya/Chani character, as the protagonist of the 2nd half. I hope that works?

I'm actually OK with this. Trying to pack a full novel worth of stuff in a reasonable length movie would end up losing too much, see the 1984 Lynch version for example. Its not a massively long novel, but its a very dense one.

I want to re-read the novel. But, I'm not sure if I want to read it before or after seeing the movie? I guess disappointment is a guarantee either way? It is a Hollywood film after all. ;)

If one already has HBO on their TV service provider is HBO max part or another $$$ going out?

I have a way of getting it streaming via Google chrome or roko.

If one already has HBO in their cable package. HBO max has no additional charge. You sign in using your cable provider. I was able to get it on Roku as well as my smart TV that allows me to download apps. (Samsung)

I remember reading that David Lynch didn't have full editorial control over his version of "Dune", the original version being quite long.

I liked it, for the fact that it was made at all. It would be great to see Lynch's full version, the way he envisioned it.

I haven't read it in a number of years and don't plan to before I see the movie. Probably not until I see both parts really.

I always liked the "Alan Smithee" cut of Dune. At roughly 3 hours, it included much more detail, with many extended scenes. Some other cuts though. I wish there were an extended cut containing the whole theater cut, and with the extra footage.

I'm going to see it at the drive-in on Saturday. May re-watch it on HBO since I have that too but I'm going to wait.

this weeks Preview " Dune"

They could have called it Star Wars.
Overly long and drawn out, Very dramatic for no reason.

Really only one 1/2 decent scene with the giant Worm.
Dragon Fly Helicopters were kinda cool.
They even copied the "Jabba the Hut "Bad Guy always eating
For such a built up there was no real great ending.
Left everyone with a Blah feeling. I hope the next one is better. Sure to be another!
But if you want to see it go ahead. 2-1/2 stars
