Dynaco A-25

They are common enough that I'd say that is little on the high side but not crazy if they are in really good shape.

Current market price of the nice A-25 is above $400, according to eBay sales.

I personally sold 3 pairs within last couple of year, all in $300 and above range, and they were not mint. I think I will never let A-25 go below $300 because they worth every penny.

They are very good classic speakers and if they "upgrade" your current speakers, I'd go for them asap.

I own two pairs of them, and have restored and sold three other pairs. While some have gone over $300 on ebay the average ebay price for a working pair in fair to good condition is just a bit over $200, plus shipping.

Buying locally, I think $175 is a fair price, but certainly not a bargain. Remember than ebay sellers net around 15% less than the sales price. If you check them out, assure that all the drivers are correct. And at that price, the badges should be there as well.

$175 is fair market value for a local sale if they are nice. Make sure the drivers are original.

Value is subjective; sadly I have not seen $175 locally for some time (for A25s). Though I did purchase a pair for $85 some time ago, perhaps 5 years. What you think matters most.

Pricing is quite variable, and seems to depend quite a bit on geography. $150-200 is the market price here in Kansas City (assuming good condition, all original, etc).

Having owned a pair briefly I wouldn't and didn't pay anywhere near that much. I don't get the love for them shown by lots of people here but to each his own.

They're worth what you can get somebody to pay. Back when I had a pair they were considered an inexpensive intermediate step on the way to Advents, Genesis or some slightly larger speaker. They're certainly good if the drivers are in good shape, but nowhere near world class. IMO they're no $300 speaker set.

edit- I remember them as having much nicer cabinets than most other speakers.

Only flippers around

They're nice with new....

I think it's not the place for advertising.

Just for sharing how ignorant SOME people are about not-so-good-looking-without-the-grill speakers.

:thmbsp: According to the Gregg Dun Dynaco website they were $160/pair back in 1970. It's seems hard to justify paying way more than that when there are comparable vintage and new speakers that are at least as good if not better. Of course the OP has to decide for himself, and in today's market $170 is a reasonable price if you really like and want to have them. Also if he doesn't like them, he's likely to get his money back with a profit:yes:.

I see them listed locally for $90-$150 at most.

I'm very surprised that the local market price there is so low. In my mind, ebay represents the top end of "market pricing", and the A25's have been selling quite regularly for an average of $200-225 (plus shipping) on ebay for many years. This suggests that there are many buyers willing to spend $250-275 a pair.

Discounting for the ebay selling fees and the hassle of shipping (for the seller), the ebay prices suggests a fair top end local price of $165-200.

I don't think the OP was asking about opinions of sound quality...although I do believe that the Dynacos are quite a bit better than most new speakers in the sub-$200 price range. The marketplace seems to agree.

Are they a "scroe" at $175? Nope. But is that a reasonable, market-based price for them? Yes. Could the OP perhaps find a pair for less, or find another pair of used speakers with equal/better sound quality for less? Yes. KLH Six, Five and Twenty-Three all come to mind in the vintage genre...along with BA A70, A100, A150, and many others.

Last year, there were couple of pairs for $75 and more at $80.
I passed because I didn't quite like their sound.
This year I've seen far less listed but a pair listed at $150 was there for over a month.
Looks like their value is inflating, not sure why. Maybe the AK discussion on them. ;)

As I noted, the ebay pricing on them has been in the $200-225 range for at least the last five years....no real change in that time.

Please note that I have been referring to average price, and to speakers in good condition. One of the units in that listing has a very badly damaged cabinet.

Yes.

I suggest OP to have a listening session with them before buying.
If you like the sound, price is not a steal but not bad either.
