Dynaco fm-5 QUESTION?

I have a dynaco fm-5 and there is a small signal meter that doesn't work anyone know where i can get a replacment?

Take a close look at the meter and see if the mechanism itself is bad. If the needle appears to bounce, the any failure mode is likely elsewhere. If the tuner working OK otherwise?

My FM 5's meter did not work, then one it did along with the stereo indicator light You might try checking for a loose connection or dust around the meter unit ? I've also heard tapping it can get these working if it's been sitting unused for awhile.

The FM-5 is a nice tuner worth a little work...good luck.

I had the same problem and apparently I had move the adjustment pots for the meter while rebuilding the tuner. These are at the top of one of the pcbs. Open up the unit, install an antenna and turn it on. Pick a very weak station, try adjusting P1 first then P2. Then a strong station. Then adjust again. The manual has instruction how to do this with FM signal generator.

The meter really isn't much use even when it is working. You willl get much more precise tuning of a given station by using the "Dynatune" feature of the tuner. Select the station you want to listen to with the "Dynatune" off and then turn it on and the "Dynatune" circuit will tune it in perfectly and hold it as well. Always defeat the "Dynatune" when selecting stations. See the manual if available. It states that the meter is not intended as a tuning aid, but is there to give an indication of relative signal strength.
