Well, this has been a roller coaster of a ride for sure. Had the head of the surplus ask me when I was going to pick up the last speaker of the set.

What? ... the big black one still in the theater, she says. The Altec Voice of the Theater A4 cabinet, with two 515Bs and a 288-16G, N-500-C dividing network.. and of course the HUGE cabinet.

uh... hmmm... soon, I say, really soon. :yes:

It was taken apart and one of the woofers has a tear, but otherwise in good shape.

Karma is definitely flowing your way. Keep asking them if there are any other items that you purchased and didn't know about. Maybe there is some old McIntosh or Marantz equipment that they forgot about.
 
Hey woodog, Mega Millions is up to $500 Mil. With your karmaluck, you might want to consider buying a ticket. When you win, not if, you can build a 50,000 sq. ft. mansh to put all your new gear in. It would almost fill it. :thmbsp:
 
Like I said incredible score but in the long is a really large listening area mandatory to get the most of their designed purpose?

That's difficult to say, I do know that when I first got my Klipschorns I was living in a 560 sq foot home with the largest of the three rooms (where the Khorns were) was 19.5' x 12'. They sounded better there than now in the 26' x 15' room they are in. Probably has more to do with the sound damping that was better in the smaller room (carpet, bed, acoustic tile, low ceilings 7.5') than the larger (wood floors, plaster, high ceilings 10')

I'm sure they will be capable of high acoustic output, but one of the reasons I love my Cornwalls and Klipschorns is how well they reproduce sound at low levels.

Ok... got the products... now with a question before beginning. The directions on the can say nothing about how long to leave the solution on the wood before wiping off, although it does say 'wipe off'

I know to go with the direction of the grain (one direction, or back and forth?), but I'm unsure of how much pressure to apply (light, heavy, will it become apparent?).

after applying, how long should I leave the solution on before wiping off (with a clean, soft cloth, I'm pretty sure).

thanks again for the suggestions! I'm excited about doing the best I can to bring these babys back to sonic and (hopefully), their best possible visual beauty.

There really is no wrong way to apply it. You will need to apply it with the steel wool and apply some good pressure to remove all the stuff that is stuck ontop of the original finish. On areas that have no gunk, you can go over it pretty fast. I usually do the whole cabinet and then just wipe it off when I am done. I have had no problems leaving it sit for a minute. If you use the feed n wax after the restore, apply it and let it dry to a film...usually 30min and then buff it with a cloth...I just use old towels.
 
Also contact this people for your cloth, I am not sure the price or what the minimum order is but they have the correct one.
