Damn that is a bummer , maybe a sign , is it possible to go check out a piece of gear at a dealer? That way your not playing the guessing game and if something goes wrong there right there to exchange so you don’t have the painful task of waiting for a new one . Just a thought, hope everything works out .

Yes. The dealer is only about 30 minutes from my house, so if I do exchange for a new one, I think it would be wise to test it out there at the shop. It is easy to see which side isn't working, the meters don't work on the right side, so speakers or no...it stays still...simple quick check. Most likely a connection came loose in transit. It is double-boxed w zero dings on the outside, but you never know what kind of tumble it may have taken. Very surprising for a unit that originally cost $5,000 though!

Yeah that is surprising you happened to get a bad one , but it happens sometimes . Hopefully you can get one that works for you .

It is by far the most beautiful piece of gear I have ever owned. I talked to the dealer and they are going to get me a new one. Fingers crossed. Very supportive customer service. Sound Approach in Yorktown, Virginia.
 
Finally picked up my new TEAC NR7CD yesterday. All is good...works perfectly and sounds amazing. Crystal clear, very detailed sound...zero brightness or glare though...my biggest surprise is the amount of bass...was expecting a slightly thinner, more digital sound, but it sounds full-bodied. First impressions are very, very good. Also, my Definitive Technology D11 speakers seem to be a good match...they sound much more alive and expressive than they were before. Very happy w the purchase so far.
 
Presently listening to Tinseltown in the Rain by The Blue Nile almost w tears in my eyes it sounds so good! Feeling lucky, blessed, and grateful for this moment in my life. Sorry to be so dramatic, but this is by far the best sounding system I have had in my home. Cheers everyone!
 
Uh oh...trouble in paradise! The past few days I have noted some kind of high frequency digital-sounding noise floating around in the background of the music when playing through the TEAC. To be honest, I am not 100% sure that it is a malfunction of the amp or whether my ears are just sensitive to the frequencies this thing puts out. Either way, I honestly cannot tolerate sitting in front of it and listening for any extended period of time. It literally hurts my ears! Looks like this is not going to work after all. Damn! It is so beautiful and minus the high frequency ringing, it sounds wonderful. Have contacted dealer...looks like a return is again in the offing. Back to the drawing board!
 
btw for the record, I tried it in both PCM and DSD modes. Has anyone ever heard of high frequency noise w DSD units? Doing a little research online yesterday, I did find other people for which it is intolerable. It seems completely audible to me...I can hear it. I certainly did not hear anything like this w my class A/B Rotel A12. Just curious if anyone else has had issues w class D amps or hi res formats such as DSD and high frequency noise? Again, the research I looked at does talk about how class D amps and DSD in particular do have "ultrasound" noise that is produced, but filters are used to move this noise outside of human perspective frequencies. I am not suggesting that I can hear above 20khz, but perhaps the filters are insufficient...? I am a complete novice to any of these issues.
 
Sadly, I will be returning this unit on Saturday. The quest continues... maybe I should just stay happy w the Rotel A12, eh?

This sounds like an internal fault, or the unit is picking up electrical noise emitted by something near by, like a computer, mobile phone, or similar device. Have you tried moving it to a different location? Turning off (and unplugging!) all electrical devices in the vicinity including sources?
 
Could be...I will admit that after years of drumming in rock bands, I have very sensitive ears and am prone to tinnitus as it stands. That said, there most certainly is something about the TEAC giving my ears fits...whether it is some kind of interference or not, I am returning the unit. On another merry-go-round-esque note, I subsequently purchased the new NAD D 3045. Let me state this in unequivocal terms: I have previously owned the D 3020, the D 7050, and the D 3020 V2.... the 3045 sounds WAY better than all of them and there is zero ringing to be heard. In fact, in all honesty, it sounds better to me than the TEAC unit. Much fuller pretension. Perhaps a hair less transparent on the top, but if I have to trade the very last iota of detail for no high-pitched ringing...Honestly...I just got it yesterday, but the 3045 is one of the best first impressions of an amp I have ever had. It sounds amazing. If it continues to not bother my ears and continues to sound this good, it will be my reference integrated for some time to come.

Sounds like you have been down the road with many different amps. Glad to hear that you finally got one that doesn’t hurt your ears and sounds good to you.
 
Thanks Marine! Yes. The process is unique for me in that, I am searching for the absolute best sound that my damaged ears can tolerate. It can be frustrating, but glorious when success is achieved. We may have found a very nice system combo here. I stress the MAY, but I do have hope. :-)
 
Man, if there is a better sounding integrated, I sure would love to hear it. Honestly folks, if you are at all looking for a small-form, light-weight, easy to manipulate integrated w a great sounding DAC that even supports MQA, you must try the NAD D 3045. I have sailed through quite a few amps over the past 10 years and this is by far the best sounding of the lot. The NAD D 3020 apparently was quite popular, but I thought it sounded weak, boring, lifeless and thin...the 3045 is anything but! The dynamics from this amp are incredible! As is the bass...truly a delightful surprise. So far, my ears are hanging in...the only thing that would get this amp to leave my house would be if my ears give up the ghost on it. Need to be careful w the volume for a while at least!
 
So, still having probs w the ears. I think an antibiotic I took a few weeks ago has kicked in the tinnitus hard. Right now, I am taking a break from listening because whenever I do, my ears start ringing really loudly. Been through this before, just hoping that it isn't permanent and that it fades soon so I can get back to listening.
