ELECTROCOMPANIENT

Thank you man. Yeah, I think it is the NAD amp for sure. It is a bit on the dark and thick side, so the Studios are not bright at all....only a few days in, so that could change, but as of right now, I can honestly say I am enjoying my music as much as I ever have and so far at least, my ears are hanging in. The Studios are pretty dang unique sounding...super detailed without the brightness/harshness/sibilance.

All amps sound different one from another ..
If you mess with a lot of amps, you'll realize that they all have a sonic signature ..
I think that what a lot of people think are their speaker's characteristics, are in reality the amp's characteristics ...
The best speaker's just disappear, and neutrally reflect whatever is fed to them ..
It's a chain and every component affects the output ..

I agree. Speakers can take on completely different characteristics when given different amps or source material. I've listened to many a different CD player and they can sound hugely different depending on the DAC used, filters...etc. I also very much have heard differences in cables. As I noted before, I have learned a lot over the past few years after going through this process. I think for the heck of it, I'm going to make a master list of every component I have owned/auditioned over the past two years...might take me a while to put it together though! LOL

Still super happy w new system. It has a nicely detailed and textured sound, but yet the top end is relaxed and gentle on the ears. Bass is punchy and present. Speakers are continuing to open up more and more everyday. Top is airy, not etched. Not going to say it has a "tube-like" warmth to it or an analog-type sound, but it most certainly does not sound like most of the modern-day "hi-res" gear I have heard over the past few years. I do very much think the sound profile is the DAC/filters in the NAD amp.

The more that it sounds like music, the better it is ..
Can't say that I ever thought that a Martin 12 string sounded etched .. etched is just another word for a distortion
I just stuck a DACT into my system and I heard a really high triangle ringing like the bell that it is, and I never even knew that it was there ..
It was just masked by all the other high frequency sounds occurring at the same time .. those are the moments when you know that you found an improvement...

Still very happy w the sound of the system, however, like everything else in life, there seems to be a problem. I have noted twice now, that when my A/C turns on, the NAD amp shuts off. The first time, the amp completely turned off in the middle of playing and I had to turn it back on again. I wrote it off as a one-time thing. Well, last night, while listening, it happened again, except this time, the amp just stopped making sound for about three seconds then resumed. I have noticed before that on occasion the lights in the house blink when the A/C turns on and we do live in an older home (built in 1972), but none of the other electronics/amps that I have owned over the past few years had done this. Not sure how to tackle this. I'm thinking of exchanging for a new D3045 and seeing if the new one does the same. The other avenue is looking into getting a power conditioner, but, to be honest, I've not really wanted to go down that road and never needed it before. I guess another route could be to have an electrician come out to make sure all is good w the box.

Definitely this, and maybe an A/C technician. It sounds like the A/C unit is causing brownouts; some devices are more susceptible than others. It could be a problem with the A/C unit itself or the household electrical power, or both. A power conditioner of sufficient capacity -- or a UPS -- might help, but it would only be curing the symptom, not the disease.

Yeah...may have someone to come out and look at it. Honestly, had not noticed it before, but agree that it is worth a look-see... I may exchange the NAD for a second unit in the meantime as well. It has an auto-shutdown feature that makes the amp turn off automatically after 30 minutes of no audio. Was planning to turn that off anyway...maybe, somehow that makes it sensitive to the A/C turning on...? I guess I'll give that a try this weekend. The lights do not flicker or anything when the A/C comes on...it's just the amp...?

Well, replaced the NAD D 3045 with a NAD C368 and while I don't like the sound as much, it did not cut off when the A/C came on. So...may just be a bad 3045 unit. Have contacted dealer and am going to exchange for a new one. So rare when I like the sound as much as I do that I want to keep the same amp.

Replacement NAD D 3045 scheduled to arrive today. Love the sound of it, just hoping that this one doesn't turn off when my A/C turns on. We shall see...

If it does, I would call an electrician like DaveVoorhis said before you burn down the house.

Ha! :) I had the neighbor over who is an HVAC guy and he said what I was experiencing is normal for the houses in our neighborhood. It's an older house (built in 1972) and when the A/C turns on, it draws a lot of power. If we have a bunch of appliances running, it generates a half-second overload which can cause highly sensitive electronics to dim for half a second. Can happen when the vacuum is turned on or even a hair dryer. He said it was normal. So far I have not had the new one long enough to be able to tell if this is at all affecting it like the first one. However, on first turn on, believe it or not, after noting the terrific sound quality that I love, I could not get it to turn off!!!! I know it comes w a preset to turn itself off after 15 minutes of non-activity, and I noted that even an hour after playing music, it was still on. So, I went over and turned it off w the remote, and don't you know it kept turning right back on!!!! Hilarious! I did this a couple of times and started laughing but it kept turning back on. So, I unplugged it and plugged it back in and it appears to be fine now! I think it's less my home and more the sensitivity of the NAD D 3045 on/off switch. It sounds great though, so as long as this doesn't repeat, I'm cool w it. Couldn't believe it though... ;-P

Happy to report that the replacement NAD D 3045 is working just fine now. The not turning off issue only happened the very first time I turned it on...no repeat after unplugging and plugging back in. Further, as before, I LOVE the sound. It is a bit weird in that I have gone through SO many integrated amps over the past few years and to a one, they almost all sounded too bright to me. The treble literally starts hurting my ears and gets the tinnitus a raging. The 3045 does NOT do that. It has a nicely plump, full, and rounded/pleasing sound to it that my ears really take to. So, when a song has a ringing bell or thunder clap, it doesn't sound shrill or piercing, it just sounds balanced. I actually feel like I hear MORE of the mix because I'm not overwhelmed w bright top end. I said before and will say again, I really do think that the NAD D 3045 is by far the best sounding integrated amplifier I have ever heard. Further, as I've seen page after page of dudes complaining about needing to tame a bright sounding system...it seems to me that this amp is one that many should try. I would add to that, that I tried a NAD 368, which is a similar type of amp made by NAD w more watts. It did NOT sound the same as the 3045. Not sure what the difference was...maybe the increase in watts just gets the tweeter a tweeting more...don't know. I did know after listening to it for a short period of time that it would not work for me. I have been trying (and trying) to get OFF of the revolving door of amps and speakers. I feel like I have reached my stop. Of course, as an aspiring audiophile, I never will say truly NEVER. But, until an integrated comes along to unseed the 3045, I am content and happy with my system. I may add or take away, but I think the 3045 is going to be sticking around for the long haul. Peace!

Don't say never ..
And don't ever listen to tube amps or you'll be a goner ...
But then again, SS amps haver sharper faster dynamics ..
Bi-amp and use both ..

Funny. I literally have never heard a tube amp. I have thought about it and been tempted, but so far, I have stayed w the comfort/experience of solid state. I certainly have read and heard that the bloom from a great tube amp is it's own unique thing. Maybe at some point I'll give a try....

NAD D 3045 is where it's at baby! Nice synergy w my Monitor Audio Studio speakers. Gonna hook up my Def Tech D11's (in white no less) this weekend to see if they give more bass. Happy!

Yeah I was going to say if he heard a hybrid Tube/SS integrated his mind would be blown . I had that reaction when I got my Musical Fidelity Nu-Vista M3 and it’s the end game for me .

I’m surprised you haven’t gone down that road yet due to your tinnitus , the smooth sweet sound of some tubes are very none fatiguing. I have a hybrid Integrated Tube Pre SS amp , I’ve owned very good separates all SS but this Integrated is the best sounding I have heard and I can listen 24/7 with zero fatigue (I have tinnitus also ) . I’m glad you’ve found what works for you though and hope you have a lot of fun with it .

Thanks so much! Me too! As fun as this ride has been at times, it's also been frustrating, costly, and time consuming. That said, everywhere I've ordered from has a good return policy, so that has been very helpful. I certainly have considered tubes, but I know so little about them, and they seem somehow...IDK...what...like, labor intensive or something...I tend to want to have something that I more or less don't have to mess with once it's up and going. I certainly have heard about tube "bloom" and warmth, but the idea of tube rolling and all that really doesn't appeal to me. With that said, who knows...maybe one day? Thanks again for the well wishes though... I really cannot stress to folks how ear friendly the sound of the 3045 is... I think I said over a year ago when I had a completely diff. system going that the 3045 is the best sounding integrated I've heard...I still think it is...not the most detailed, not the most powerful, but to me at least, the most enjoyable to listen to. The only other integrated I can think of that sounded somewhat similar was the TEAC AI-301. But the NAD has more power than that unit did.

They always sound great until you hear a better amp...
Had a great sounding Counterpoint hybrid that for the money was the best that I could do at the time .. but I still lusted after a pr. of Mark Levinson mono blocks ..
The good thing is that you're listening close enough to hear the sonics of your amp ... some people don't know what they're missing .
