Electronics Hoard [MI Estate Sale]

I spy a Pioneer PL-1000 and those Carver Amazings.

Seems sad, us loitering over this guy's beloved collection. Sure, he was a hoarder, but the only difference in him and myself is likely that he had a better town to hoard from.

Clearly some great stuff, and no, I hope I never have this much. I don't want people riffing thru my **** when I'm gone.

Perhaps giving myself a Viking funeral atop my speakers is the way to go. I know I'd fit atop my McIntosh XRT20's or my EV Sentry VI's.

Too far and no interest. My guess is that if is priced low to decent some folks might load up today, but given my experience here, pricing will be close to, at or even above fair market value.

I'd strongly recommend a good flashlight, and a set of phones with a 1/4" connector.

Good luck, and please report back with pics and prices.

Hi guys,

Here's my visual rundown, took me 3-4 hours, sorta using my old Vintage Spotter's guide in my head plus the internet for detail and model IDs. IMO, there are some very nice pieces in there depending on your interests. He REALLY REALLY like PIoneer decks (2 particular Fluroscan models) and Nakamichi tape decks, including one DRAGON. I'll assume he was a tech or at least an electrical engineer. I wonder if he worked for a repair facility or was an authorized repair shop? Quite a bit of Soundcraftsmen gear too which is nice, plus Nikko gear too.

Here we go:

Seems sad, us loitering over this guy's beloved collection.

This isn't a collection, it's just a pile of gear. A collection would be one of each Marantz receiver from 1975, or all of the Fisher tube receivers. This is just a bunch of gear that piled up on shelves. I'm guessing most of it doesn't work, and it's just lucky that the estate didn't scrap it all.

Somebody bought a bunch of turntables, all the ones that were on the bed are gone and the pioneer 1000...and I don’t see the adc. Looks like they didn’t get the mushroom and remote that goes with it though....

Semantics aside, I'm sure Mr. Recently Deceased would disagree. I see your point, tho.

Ooooops.
I know those are needed for a "complete" system, are they essential for operation?

It does seem there are less pictures of gear with the updated set of photos.

Looks like $1200 on the Carver Amazings.
Too many cassette and CD units for me...

Did you buy it? I would go back and get them! it will work without it but that is a lot of the fun and value of the table...
I have one, the mushroom is soooo cool!

Yes, it does look like a big pile of the better chunks of gear are gone. If they were removed during the presale, they made their 50 bucks per and let go of most of the gear that would get collectors in the door. Lots of BPC types of gear left and piles of cassette decks.

The Sencore SG 80 and PA 81 are still in the pics of the test equipment.
Each of them routinely sell for $800+ on eBay.

Edit - actually the last SG80 just sold for $1224.

Two Sound Technology test equipment in one picture. The ST1200 is only used by audio technicians (I have two!), and the tape deck analyzer speaks for itself. Somewhere in those piles and bins are a set of nakamichi test tapes and gauges. My spidey sense says someone needs to go and root through the bins.

Only if he started hoarding a decade or two earlier, that would've been really interesting.

I was wondering that too. Maybe the tube stuff, if any, was already picked over or sold off, along with any tube related parts. We'll never know. Maybe he started his hobby/work in the 70's and later so amassed a lot of solid-state stuff plus cassettes

The new after pre-sale photos are posted, ... looks like their big pre-sale didn't move much.

Well, I can see that virtually all of the Nakamichi stuff save for a few pieces in basement and upstairs is now gone apparently. Same with a few of the Pioneers. Probably at least a 1/3 of the gear is gone now. I'm surprised the test equipment isn't gone although not sure there is a real updated photo of that desk. I'd sure like to get the HP and Sencore gear.

The ADC is still there on top of a basement rack.

Surprisingly, the Soundcraftsmen Preamp/equalizer is still there on the bottom. Some of the SAE pieces may still be there.

Agree, the best stuff is mostly gone, probably at a decent price. May have been the more you bought, the better the discount. Pretty much all of the records are gone too, as well as maybe most of the cassettes. Easy money there.

A new picture showed a wooden bookcase / cabinet and in it is a huge trove of technical books and data books / catalogs about semiconductors - like the Motorola Semiconductor Library, National Semiconductor, Analog Devices, Texas Instruments, Signetics, etc. I've got most of those same books so I can feel his interests being about the same time as mine, late 70's early 80's when solid state design was really taking off.

I'm also pretty confident that a few interesting odds and ends have now shown up, having been hidden away before in the sheer vastness of the estate stuff. So if anyone goes, I hope you find something of interest, and maybe see if you can find out more of the person who lived there.

Maybe this person is simply downsizing and is still alive? One never knows.

Agreed, I don't know if you saw the previous pictures, they are gone now and I regret not copying them over for posterity when I did my spotter's guide. There were at least a dozen or more BX style Nak decks, a T100 analyzer, 1 Dragon, about 6 RX202, 1 RX505, and maybe 6 DR series decks, a couple of 480-series decks. No early 580/ 680/ ZX or classic Nak deck though. The Sound Tech gear, plus a couple of HP Audio/Spectrum analyzers, plus some interesting Sencore test gear was what I saw before, no pics save for an old pic are there now.

The Nakamichi test tapes and gauges are probably in a cabinet or the desk somewhere - that would be the fun part of opening bins and drawers and seeing what else is there.

Imagine coming across NOS tape heads, idlers, other Nak repair parts, piles of component transistors, op amps, IC's, and perhaps phono cartridges!

No, too far away and I'm too broke to be buying any gear.
I did see part of one of those systems on the Grand Rapids CL a couple years ago so that's how I knew it was a part of the "system".
Looks like the TT didn't sell during the early bird sale after all.
