EPI T/E 120 speakers

The Stat450's look very interesting. You didn't fall in love with them....why? What's missing?

First off, nice looking Magnus speakers. They look like they're really clean and well taken care of.

The Stat450? I don't know. Probably some combination of the mid to high frequency information being just too darned directional........VERY narrow sweet spot with those speakers. And I felt like the bass was just a bit too boomy.

Not for a long while. The woofers are from Human Speakers. When I got them the surrounds were shoot, so I purchased replacements from HS. This was before I found AK.

BTW, I like the Magnus A11's.

Maybe they could be use in combination with others speakers....stacked. Now that's ole school.

Ehhh. Maybe. I think the electrostatic panels would be better matched up with an 8" woofer. Still wouldn't widen the sweet spot though.

First I ever see a T/E 100 Series II and no reference to them on HUMAN. Nice find.

I refoamed on the back, because I like to keep things original, but if you have to foam on the front, I would advise putting some kind of reference point on the cones so you can center the surrounds when gluing the inner ring. Otherwise, you might end up gluing off center. I put 3 or 4 "sign here" stickies equally spaced from the outer edge and align the inner surround edge to them. These are pretty easy to do successfully.

That's a very good question. I guess intermingled with all the grumbling I did about them, on the positive side they do have a certain transparency and ease of sound in the mids and highs. Maybe deep down inside I keep thinking there's something I can do to "cure" the ills they have. Plus, I don't see them come up for sale very often....very rarely in fact....and that's something that always makes me take pause before letting something go.

All of the T/E series benefit from one simple mod. Glue a 1" dowel between the front and back panels just above the woofer. Because these panels are large they tend to resonate at certain frequuencies, the dowel stops that.

Excellent advice! I was just working on my te-70's not too long ago and was thinking of adding a little brracing to reduce lower frequency issues I was having. But, I did not do it,because I didn't want to mess anything up...maybe the next time they get refoamed i'll ad a dowel.

It'll look better if you peel that glue off the front of it. It comes off pretty easy... once you get it going. Use your fingernails; the cone scratches easily.

Here's what a T/E 100 looks like with the foam on the front of the cone. Much much better looking, and they sound fine this way. Don't mess with the foam on the back!

Tell me about it, When I was adding a glue to the surrounds I inadvertently scratched the back of the plastic, and sure enough the foam came right off. It seems as though rather than a foam woofer with a plastic overlay, epi made it a plastic woofer with light foam undercoat.

Any one know how sensitive the T/E 120? Does it fit for tube amp.?

I may work for tubes, I don't know, but as I recall the efficency is around 90% at least?, I know my little old pioneer, a sx-525 at around 17 watts or so can really push the te-70s well.

Maybe some one out there has a pair on a tube amp? I would love to know how that sounds as well.

I passed a mint pair of ..refoamed 120's at a GW....in Mt Vernon WA.....a while back for $14.95.
I passed them for the $14.95 Infinity REF 3's.....No room in my brother's car....for 2 sets of speakers!! I would have scooped them too!!

I had a very hard time doing it for some reason. The tolerances seem to be very tight and the cones are not very stiff. Good luck. I used a signal generator and amp to center.

I have a couple pairs of the old 90s with the phenolic inverted tweeter that I just absolutely love. Any comments regarding the horn tweeters on the newer TE series?
