Equalizer to accommodate my Yamaha CR-2040?

I'm interested in hearing recommendations for an equalizer to accommodate my Yamaha CR-2040? Preferable on that is not a rack-mount type.

A rack-mount EQ doesn't have to rack-mounted! Check out the Soundcraftsmen DC2215 Octave EQ. The can sell for under $100 on Ebay. I have a couple that were practically given to me. I prefer the Soundcraftsmen Pro-EQ 44 which is a third-octave EQ (21 pots for per channel plus level pot equals 44) with much better sliders. If you lived closer I'd loan you a 2215 to try.

Of course if you're looking for an aesthetic match to the Yamaha over function, then you'll likely have to go vintage Japanese like in your photo. Good Luck.

In response to your question, let me say this - any form of manipulation has the possibility to add distortion.

The better your speakers and acoustical environment the less the need for equalization; that's where I would focus.

Make sure the S/N specs of the EQ are better than that of the receiver. Then it shouldn't add noticable noise levels.

Anybody - that would be me.
I make up a new batch every 2-3 years.
I have about 100 made each time to get a decent price, If I made them for every event they'd be expensive and extra work for me.

The 2040 has the most flexible tone controls of any vintage receiver. Why do you want an equalizer?

Still need to understand what the OP is trying to improve. The 2040 has a very good preamp and super flexible tone controls. Most equalizers will add noise to the signal path.

Suggest the OP read up on the 2040 loudness usage - it is counter intuitive compared to other vintage receivers. Took me a while to get the tone and loudness settings optimal on my 2040 for the sound I was after.
