Ess 12" woofers refoam done by Pro.......Not happy!

Hell, that doesn't look all that terrible. I see a little excess glue on the second pic but no big deal. You were overcharged I'll say that much, but I was expecting some really sloppy work.Am I missing something?

After seeing the pics, my thoughts exactly.

A pricey job, and not using the correct foam is unforgivable.

How do they sound??

Sorry, man. There's a repair shop sorta in my neck of the woods, owner is an AK'er, but after spending 2k in his shop over the years and getting lesser and lesser quality work, I'll never be back.
It happens. Hope you reach some level of satisfaction in this situation.

Just chalk it up to experience and move on. Next time come here first for refoam help. We could have gotten you settled for $50 or less.

What they did is not uncommon for repair shops that only keep certain sizes in stock. They probably have a box of these foams in a closet somewhere collecting dust and are just itching to use them. But the repair is viable and if the speakers work, then you should be all set for another 30 years.

It would bug me that they used the wrong size foam and had to cut it. Besides that they did a pretty neat job with the refoam.

I never said he did sloppy work I was concerned about the price charged versus what his prices are listed on his web site. Also, the fact the correct surrounds are available and he decided to use the wrong ones and cut them to fit. You can't win them all.

These are my woofers. He gave me some money back (Although it was still higher than what was listed on his web site) as we had a 20 minute discussion on the phone. Once I see the refund in my bank account I will tell you who it is. Also, he extended his warranty on the work to 10 years. What a guy......not!
Sorry to hear about your refoam issue.
The fact that he offered you a partial refund and you accepted would hurt your case in court. In the courts eyes, you accepted compensation.
I would suggest that if you still intend to pursuit this case through the courts you can get a series of price quotes from various repair/refoam shops in your area as well as who the vendor was the shop bought the kits from. If possible, get the kits packaging. The correct kit (for the prices charged) should fit without modification.
Overall, I think you have a case since the 'repairman' cut the foam area to 'make it fit'.

You just have to think like the majority of Americans these days "you get what you pay for". If it's expensive, it must be better.

:beerchug:

This must be why so many here find speakers in thrifts only needing a foam job.

420?
Guy must be high smoking weed.

Do it yourself. Simple.

Even though they did a good job with the generic surround I'm with the OP on the fact I wouldn't want that, and if they told me they were going to do it that way I would have taken my business elsewhere. Also agree with the OP it was way too much even if done without a seam.

From the look of the job from the picture it looks as though it should perform 100%.

Am I seeing things? It looks like he used the wrong circumference foam and cut it and resized it. As in used a 13 inch and cut it down to 12 by cutting completely through one end of the surrounds I've never seen this before. I've seen trimming the inside and outside but not this.

The guy didn't tell me he was going to put incorrect surrounds on or I would have told him no. Had he told me the prices on his website are BS and he was going to double his price I would have told him no. The guy designs and builds some damn fine sounding speakers. I heard them myself. With that being said you would think he would use the correct surrounds no?

I agree completely.

Actually quite common for odd sized drivers.

Well, I'm sorry that this happened, and I know that you have the right to be upset; but, I have to admit, I'm truly curious if you've tried the 'repaired' drivers or not? They're bought and paid for, so why not? While the work ethic involved wasn't top-notch, the woofers will hopefully still perform as intended. So, give it a shot! There's nothing to loose, at this point!
