EV S15-3 Re-build and Step Down Frequency questions.

I acquired a set of these which has been installed in a church, and the crossovers had been previously repaired, but blown again, so they discarded them. The cabinets were pretty rough, so I tossed them out (they were surprisingly flimsy in fact on the PI15-3 version which were never meant for the rigors of gigging or moving about) but the drivers are all intact and impressive. I was planning to just sell the components, but now, since I love building, I might just design new cabinets and build new crossovers to make them sing again. I found a schematic for the 12-2 crossover, but (foolishly) tossed out the trashed crossovers so I don't have that to work with. If anyone that's done a crossover rebuild can provide a schematic and values, that would be greatly appreciated. It might be worthwhile to attenuate those peak areas in the midrange while I'm at it.....

Good morning! I posted above in 2019 with photos of my late father’s S15-3’s I use as my main reference system in home use. I’d recommend building a cabinet of the same volume, with the same vent size and depth, but in a stacked configuration. Like a 15” loaded tower. Were it not for the sentimental value of mine, I would have already done this to better time-align the channels when listening in the nearfield sweet spot.

Regarding xover, I would love information on them as well, as I too have only ever found an S12-2 schematic. I’ll be repairing one of mine soon and can post cap values for you when I’m in there, but have not been able to find anywhere with frequency values for the air core inductors. If I could find those frequencies, you better believe I’d be rebuilding a nice new set from scratch. I agree that a resistor on the VMR may assist in flattening out the response curve, but doing it with a five-band EQ has always been easier for me.

Hoping this thread may come back to life. Not much online for these speakers even though they're real hidden gems when adapted a bit for home use. Would love to see/hear how OP’s project came out!
 
Buongiorno! Ho pubblicato sopra nel 2019 con le foto degli S15-3 di mio padre che uso come sistema di riferimento principale nell'uso domestico. Consiglierei di costruire un armadio dello stesso volume, con le stesse dimensioni e profondità di sfiato, ma in una configurazione impilata. Come una torre da 15 pollici carica. Se non fosse per il mio valore sentimentale, l'avrei già fatto per allineare meglio i canali durante l'ascolto nel punto debole del campo vicino.

Per quanto riguarda xover, mi piacerebbe avere informazioni anche su di loro, poiché anch'io ho trovato solo uno schema S12-2. Riparerò presto uno dei miei e posso pubblicare i valori di protezione per te quando sono lì, ma non sono stato in grado di trovare da nessuna parte i valori di frequenza per gli induttori del nucleo d'aria. Se riuscissi a trovare quelle frequenze, faresti meglio a credere che ricostruirei un bel nuovo set da zero. Sono d'accordo che un resistore sul VMR può aiutare ad appiattire la curva di risposta, ma farlo con un EQ a cinque bande è sempre stato più facile per me.

Sperando che questo thread possa riprendere vita. Non molto online per questi diffusori, anche se sono delle vere gemme nascoste se adattati un po' per l'uso domestico. Mi piacerebbe vedere/ascoltare come è uscito il progetto di OP!

I know this is an old thread, anyone using the EV 1503 for two channel content? I have the chance to get a pair but have to go look at what kind of condition they are in.
