EV sentry III SOUNDS very baddddd help!

Sorry, i may have misread codes a bit, and made a few changes to my previous post.
If you would have lived closer, i could have come by with my woofers, but i do not think the drivers are at fault.
I remaine confident that the crossed wires are at fault. If one woofer is out of phase, all frequencies below 600hz are canceling each other out.
If not, i would take a look at the crossover cap values, and compare them with the schematic:

Not necessarily defective, but the values might drift over time and cause changes in the crossover points. I would also take a look at the values written on them in case the previous owner made some changes (by comparing with fotos found online all looks original). For speakers of this age, a recap is not a bad idea.
 
I only see one electrolytic cap in the pics you posted, doubtful re capping will make much improvement.

That would certaily reduce the bass output and can therefore cause the mids/highs to sound shrill or exaggerated.

I agree.

An easy way to check phasing is to play music which has substantial bass and rotate the "balance" control of the amplifier "left" then "right" a few times. Does the bass get stronger when using only one channel?

So no EQ which does extend the low end performanc and your front covers for the port's are on or off?

You noted the previous owner bi-amped at one time, your now running with a single amp and have the speaker terminals jumped?

If anyone has been inside its very possible the spade terminals may have been moved on the speaker terminal board. Especially if trying to use an active [outboard] crossover or just fiddling around.

Bass has always been a consternation of sorts with corner placement recommended and yes big SS power on the woofers.
 
Hi.After verifications I saw that in fact all the speakers are inverse connected…red cable with black cable for all the speakers.Is that phase inversion?I remember there was a subject in that forum which was speaking about phase inversion for the sentry’s.Is that normal to connect that way??

If you know your way around a soldering iron, it can be adapted for use with the sentrys. You have to change 4 resistors.

Out of phase wiring is when one speaker is wired correctly, while the other one is wired incorrectly. That does not seem to be the case with your speakers. I recommend playing the test tones i have posted in a previous post, including frequency sweeps. That might get you closer to identifying your problem, if there is any.

Another mention to make sure the woofers are wired in phase.

Also as mentioned a couple of times, you should cover the bottom port opening even if you do not have an equaliser, as this changes the character of the speaker. I actually prefered them with the bottom opening covered and no EQ - i found the bass was overwhelming with the EQon, but each room is different.
 
I read here that the sentry’s mid and trebble are normally inverse polarity wired.And the crossover reverse the polarity to put in phase with the woofer…Does it speak to someone??

It's not unheard of to have a driver intentionally run out of phase. The sentry iii do indeed run the mid and tweet reversed. also not impossible for power resistors to fail or drift. I would start checking those, the crossover pads those down quite a bit, especially the midrange.

Your issue lies in the crossover. The caps should still be good if it's like this one.

I don't have a pair, grabbed that off another thread.

Somebody definitely was into your wires. Maybe trace them again. And definitely check for continuity thru the components. According to the schematic the woofer is standard polarity, but the mid and tweet are indeed reversed. It's not hard to make an oops.

Just from memory any EV EQ marked as model SEQ should not need the modification for the Sentry III type 1or 2.

are in their correct position for your present setup?

Yes the woofer is wired out of phase with the mid and tweeter but that's only 1 internal wiring confirmation needed.

Hi,thanks for your return.I don t know exactly what you mean about that…I use it on passiv way right now.How to check terminals position?if possible to show me on my xover pics
