EV sentry III SOUNDS very baddddd help!

It is almost universally believed that tze 23 is superior to the 24. A switch also involvers changing a couple of resistors for each speaker.
Did you manage to check the wiring of the drivers and crossover?
I've never heard this before. I've read a LOT of EV related stuff over the years. Why is 1823 superior? Because it's alnico?

Hi there
Some news after many tests on my sentry’s.
As I said,I ve tried active amplification with tri amping high mid and low with an active dbx pa2 crossover(which is very easy and friendly to use)
I ve put 40w tube amp for high (dynavox vr70e2),70w arc d70 for mid and powerfull xls 2002 crown for bass.
First of all,I ve tried same crossover specifications as original with 600hz and 3500hz and sames curves.I didn’t try equalization at this time.
The result was…bad in my big 50m2 room.much better than passive original crossover but not a good result and inaudible at high level.Nothing really nice nothing sweet and not a good hifi result.
The question is:why are the sentry’s so popular with this type of sound result?really don t understand…
And it s not a problem of gear because of the second step:
I kept 600 and 3500hz and put 24db curves for each way.then I ve test a full equalization with les and geq pa2 equalization.And what a f…..g result !
It went to another world.literally.
Bass or enormous ,fantastic impact with the crown amp ,high and mid are delicious and sweet.
I know equalization is transforming any drivers « artificially » to « another » driver, but it aims to exploit full drivers capacity too.And what a discovery for my first active amping try!I think I will never go in the past after trying that.It s much better to obtain directly the sound that you want than trying a lot of expensives gear associations…if your gear has initially the potential and capacity to follow of course.
And that the case with these good old sentry’s! big gear which needs a little modern associated technology to give their best …I m very pleased and it may be interesting to see other sentry s possessor to try this active way and knowing what they think about this improvement !thanks for all good tips
