I think you'd be safe trying up pretty far, especially if you're not cranking it. You won't hurt those woofers with 1k or even 2k. It's more about the horn not wanting to go low. For me, if it's crossed too high, voices sound bad. Try 800, see if it sounds better. A gentle slope would be 12, but they should match as a starting point. You can also vary them, a high pass at 600 for the bass, and a low pass for the horn at 8. Don't cross the horns lower than 600.
Start by bringing the low level up to where you want it, then bring in the mids to match. Don't try to set levels by the numbers. Do it by ear.
