Favorite 5 Christmas Albums

I can't believe this esteemed crowd would not mention this until post # 71:

The New Possibility: John Fahey's Guitar Soli Christmas Album

Since I don't own a lot of Christmas music, here's the rest of my collection:

A guilty pleasure for sure, but never fails to get people up dancing when there's enough rum in the egg nog.

Paul James - Rockin' the Blues

Not a Christmas album, except for my favourite Chrismas song, "Crazy Little Kitten for Christmas"

OK, time to start playing some of this stuff. ;) I am far from a Christmas music connoisseur but these two easily make my top 5. I only have about 20 or so recordings between both LP and CD, and yes, there is certainly some Christmas "schlock" in there though I do draw the line at Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer. :thumbsdn: These two which have already been mentioned, are so good in fact, that I play them throughout the year and not only at Christmas time. I'd have to give more thought to choosing three others...

The classic LP -

...and here's its digital counterpoint with different, and very nice, cover artwork and also different title. All the tracks are the same as the LP, but for some reason they are rearranged a bit -

Christmas would just not be Christmas without this:

You might like Mason Williams Christmas album too. I have the first Fahey album on LP and CD but don't have the second. I also have the suggested Mason Williams. If you like acoustic Christmas music try David Grisman's Christmas album.

I didn't have the patience to go through nine pages, so I'll just ask. I have a bunch of Christmas music that runs the gamut from 101 Strings to George Thorogood. What I need is something METAL! You know, screaming guitars, driving bass, pounding drums! Does anyone have any suggestions?

....

However, may I enlighten you on these....

Trans-Siberian Orchestra - The Lost Christmas Eve
Trans-Siberian Orchestra - The Christmas Attic
Trans-Siberian Orchestra - Christmas Eve And Other Stories

For a change of pace. :thmbsp:

Is this still true or have your tastes changed?

BTW, how many times is Guilty Pleasure used in this thread?

Since no one has offered anything yet this year I'll break the ice... My 5 consist of 4 CD's and 1 LP.... just because that's the format I own..
In no particular order.
Arthur Fiedler's Christmas Pops #1 (a Time-Life offering)
Elvis Christmas
Celtic Woman : A Christmas Celebration
Rudolph, Frosty, and Friends Favorite Christmas Songs
and on LP the oft mentioned Vince Guaraldi Trio : A Charlie Brown Christmas

an honorable mention is another LP I enjoy called Organ and Chimes Christmas Favorites, Alexander Goodrich at the organ. Excellent SQ.

And thanks!

I started the thread to get ideas on new Christmas albums to buy. I'm going to check if I have the Celtic Women. I have a couple of Fiedler/Boston Pops already. I'm not the generation for Charlie Brown's Christmas.

Regarding the Charlie Brown, I'm just a kid at heart you understand. The Celtic Woman cd is top notch and the sound quality is amazing. It's HDCD encoded if you have a deck that is compatible.
I note that we apparently live close together....

I use a Sony carousel CD changer for the Christmas music. I set it on shuffle and it plays without repeats for days. So far I have over a hundred bought and burned from my brother CDs in it.

There is hardly any Christmas music that I don't like. My wife is 10 years younger, had to find someone at my mental maturity, and she likes the Charlie Brown Christmas. It just came along when I was older and I still haven't seen the whole show.

I can't believe I haven't bumped this for Christmas 2016.

I always get a lot of good selections I haven't thought of.
