Hey stranger!
How's the Scott coming?

Yup, hard to choose just one, as his music touches one on so many levels (And not like Michael Jackson touches you!) and evokes so many different responses...

Hardly a bad track on 'Born To Run' or 'Darkness On The Edge Of Town'. "Candy's Room" & "Racing In The Street" never fail to get me to stop what I'm doing and listen, even though Bruce doesn't know jack about motors - "I've got a '69 Chevy with a 396, Fuelie heads and a Hurst on the floor" Anybody else know what's wrong with that picture?[/QUO

Good call. As all Chevy fans know, fuelie heads fit a small block motor, not a 396 big block. And I don't think Hurst ever made a column shifter, so "Hurst on the floor" is rather redundant; although back in the day I would put Linda Vaughn (Miss Hurst Golden Shifter) up on a column-pedestal-whatever.

Believe it or not...

Did the coupling caps last weekend; it's working fine. I was gonna skip the bias (selenium) rectifier replacement and call it done last week... but the more I thought about it and read about it; I've gotta do it! I have a bridge rectifier but I need to check and see if I have a 33 ohm power resistor to pad down the output of a modern rectifier. If I do, it'll be done tomorrow or one night next week. Otherwise, I'll have to scrounge one up.

I ran it for 45 minutes on the Altecs last Tuesday night and it worked very well.
In other words (to get back on topic), it didn't play I'm On Fire :-)

That 396/fuelie heads line makes me chuckle every time I hear that song. (I don't know if the 383 conversion was thought up yet when he wrote the song, but "three eighty three" would fit in there just fine and be much more technically correct.) I figure the "Hurst on the floor" bit is just there to pad out a line. Poetry doesn't always play well with technical writing.

Fave Boss Song

Darkness on the Edge of town is a Great Record, can't go wrong there.
As for Songs,I like "Johnny 99" off Nebraska; "One step up and two steps back",from Tunnel of love -Jeez so many good songs over the years! If I had to choose one album it would probably be Born in the USA and "My Hometown". I too remember sitting on my old mans lap, steering his big old Buick -Watching the mills across the tracks close -"Foreman says these jobs are going boys, and they ain't coming back". I give pause to the thought that the good old days ain't coming back either...

Vigilante Man -- although by Woody Guthrie, The Boss's version off of "A Vision Shared: A Tribute To Woody Guthrie and Leadbelly" is ripping and menacing.

"Red Headed Woman" from MTV Plugged concert is a fave, along with "Tenth Avenue Freezeout," but it was "Rosalita (Come out Tonight) that started the Springsteen trek for me in 1973. One of the few songs I've heard on the car FM radio and then pulled over to a phone booth and called the radio station (KDKB - Mesa, AZ) to ask, "Who and what was that!"

Lets face it, Springsteen has about 150 songs that rate among the best anyone has ever done. The fact that the E Street Band is the best damn band in the land (after the OSU marching band, of course) certainly doesn't hurt.

It's amazing how he was just pumping out great song after great song. I don't care for stuff like Born In The USA. Not because I'm not patriotic - just seem more popish.

He was giving away great songs to Southside Johnny, and Patti ? Having a senior moment.

I don't have a lot of Springsteen on CD. So I just looked on my Roku Internet Radio - sure enough there's SpringsteenRadio.com. All Boss, all the time.

Check it out :thmbsp:

My local independent movie theater just had Springsteen Barcelona concert all week. Unfortunately the wife and I didn;t get to go. $15 per ticket.

Anyone else seen it? I would think with good movie sound system it would be next best think to being at his concert.

I'll always remember seing The Last Waltz at the Ziegfeld in NYC when it came out, That was the era of Dolby Stereo. It was incredible. Folks were passing joints around . Very much the concert atmosphere :smoke:

From the first time I heard it over 30 years ago, right up until this day. My favorite has been Backstreets. Despite it being almost a cliche' after all this time.
It still moves me, everytime I hear it.

One soft infested summer
Me and Terry became friends
Trying in vain
To breathe the fire
We was born in

I don't think he's ever topped that opening stanza, ever, not in almost 40 years!!!!

The use of "Born in the USA" as a patriotic anthem is very ironic (and tends to annoy Springsteen) - the song is about the bad treatment Vietnam veterans received after returning home. It's certainly not "unpatriotic," but it does call the country out for bad behavior.
