The best one is anyone I don’t have to listen to. Radio really ruined them for me, playing their stuff over and over again in the 70s. That and being stuck in the back seat with a driver that insisted on blasting them on a long drive.
For me it was Chuck Mangione's Feel So Good. I really liked the song too. I can now (finally) get back to liking it enough to actually purchase a copy (maybe.)

I keep coming back to this thread to vote and I can’t pick one. Tempted to go with Katy Lied because I think it’s underrated. But I’ve gone through phases with all of them except Can’t Buy A Thrill and Two Against Nature. I was probably about the only person in the the audience for the Everything Must Go tour disappointed that they only played three songs from the album.

Was the seat in the middle in between two Jensen 6X9 Triaxial's mounted on the rear deck?:beerchug:

Mine’s actually a tie between COUNTDOWN TO ECSTASY and THE ROYAL SCAM.

With CTE, Steely Dan built on the promise of CAN’T BUY A THRILL, a brilliant rock debut in its own right, by delivering what is IMO one of the greatest rock records of the 70s: “Bodhisattva” (That guitar solo, Holy crap.) and “My Old School” not to mention the epic “The Boston Rag” (Another incredible guitar solo. This album filled with spectacular solos.), “Show Biz Kids” and four other stellar songs. This record is the poster boy for underrated. And the sound—good god.

Similarly TRS was a culmination of sorts. And another pinnacle. Primarily because it contains more than a few of the all time great Steely Dan classics. “Kid Charlemagne”, “Don’t Take Me Alive” “Haitian Divorce”, the title track, others... It’s also the last Dan album that incorporated strong rock elements before they went full on jazz fusion with AJA and GAUCHO. Not to sound dismissive. AJA’s probably #3 for me.

Ditto! And the sound of CTE is tops in my book. While all have their signature, CTE is the cleanest, most natural sounding and as good as they sound devoid of some obvious heavy EQ on other albums.

I agree that FM radio over did it it with a handful of their songs. However there are so many FM didn’t play to excess that are treasures. “Pearl of the Quarter” is one of my favorites. Brilliant rhyming in that song.

Almost a silly question. I saw this and looked through my Steely Dan collection. Only one I'm missing is Gaucho. I grabbed Cant Buy A Thrill and queued it up on the turntable. So I have to say,, Today my favorite is Cant Buy A Thrill. Who knows tomorrow. Steely Dan has been so consistent through all their albums. I may queue up Aja after this. But If I have to vote.. Cant Buy A Thrill

Hard to choose between 'Aja' and 'Countdown to Ecstasy'.
Finally chose CtE; My Old School has always been a favourite (love the brass arrangement), and never liked Josie or Peg. (Plus they got way too much radio play, especially considering all the great tunes that were available on Aja )

Apparently ad execs don’t believe in jingles anymore, they would rather ruin a old song by playing it over and over again in commercials.
I just noticed another movie that used”Sympathy to the devil”. Interview with a vampire, but with a sound alike singer. Either the Stones don’t own it or it was cheaper using a different singer. Paint it black was also used in numerous movies.
Meanwhile with 1200 feet between us my neighbor thinks his taste in music is so good everyone should hear it. Thump, thump, thump.

Sat front row center at the Pretzel Logic show at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium on on July 5, 1974. My own personal holiday. Tickets were a Bar Mitzvah president.

Agree. If you’re gonna put a well-known song in a film it’s gotta be the original. Which is why I would hate YESTERDAYS. So I will not see it.
