Favorite tools on the workbench?

Is it an Estwing? I like those.

I have a leather-stacked handle one somewhere in the garage. :)

Looks like this one I found on the Net.
Estwing hammers are still made in Rockford Illinois, USA!

There is something about the feel of vintage tools. The well-used ones have so much history.

I have some of my grandfather's (RIP) hand tools which I brought back from the UK. He was a master cooper- made oak barrels for Bass breweries from the 1920s through to the 60s. It never ceases to amaze me, what they did. He never owned a power tool of any type and yet he could make a liquid tight, gas tight, oak barrel of any size to transport liquor/beer across the world in bowels of ships, be unloaded, dropped, rolled and mistreated and yet not spill a drop. No glue, no sealant, just pure skill.

If you've ever even picked up a single English oak stave from a hogshead and felt the weight, you can imagine the skill it took with big barrels steaming those staves over a hot fire, manipulating hoops etc.

Those simple, well used-hand tools mean a lot to me.

I bought some 1/2" binder clips because I need 1/2" binder clips for a project:

Only in 'murica does 15mm = 1/2"! I really needed them to be 1/2"... Let's see, if 1/2"=15mm, how big is a football field? Wonder what happened to 'murican manufacturing? Maybe something like this. It's only off by 18.1%. That's pretty close, right?

I picked this up for $15 at a Habitat for Humanity store about a month ago:

It seems to be accurate- 15mm = 0.5905", not 1/2".

Screwdrivers for electricians.

Good one, took me a minute to see it. Real electricians use Klein’s in my experience. If they were doing battery work for me at Airtouch they used Cementex 1KV tools. I wrote the contract. Real bad things happen when a 48V, 9600A battery plant gets shorted to ground by a tech with a torque wrench in the middle of the night. The 50-200 inch pound torque wrench alone is $900 these days.

It was a little apprentice joke. ;)

I have the Dewalt 20V version and that's one tool I would never sell.

I've been eyeballing those battery powered die grinders for some time now. Both straight and angle. These little tools are spenive$$$. I was doing a gasket cleanup last week(no shop air available) with scrapers in a deep pocket. A mild scotch pad on one of these would have turned that 1hr job into 5min.

Portable tools are so nice. Though my air compressor is sad.
