Thanks ... I love my 400 ... picked it up last year ... with a walnut case ... couldn't have afforded it '63 ... what is the source of the review? ...

craig,actually besides collecting the old equiptment i also enjoy picking up the old mags such as "high fidelity","audio" ,and hi-fi review.i have a small collection and am continously adding to it.i hope to concetrate on it more now and build it up .theres lots of info in them besides the reviews that i enjoy reading.theres one article in one issue from the 50's that has to do with the problems of dealing with the waf and the buying of more gear(yes the problem that some of us have dates back that far)that i will probally post for some light reading in the near future.
i also hope to scan all the reviews and hopefully post them in the members gallery eventually.

The FM section only got better on later 400's with the addition of one more IF section. Nowadays, the 400's FM section needs a bit of work to account for the changes in FM broadcast standards over the years since these were made, aging of some electrolytics, etc.

Comparing your review and the 400 specs I have reveal very similar results - refreshing and a testament to the engineering that went into vintage audio gear.

As a comparison, do you have a review of (especially) the McIntosh 1500 intergrated tube receiver made at the same time, or the Scott 299, etc.?

Also, I'm looking for a review of my Luxman KX-101 cassette deck that was in the Feb. 1983 issue of High Fidelity. My library has High Fidelity on microfilm, but only from 1985 to when they were taken over. I've got an inter-library search request for this article, but that request was over a month ago and I doubt one will turn up.

nope dont have the mac 1500 or the 299.
basically i have all of 51&52,1955,1957,and 1963 and a few others.take a look here and let me know if theres anything from the issues i have listed thats on that site that you'd like posted.theyre list isnt quite complete but for 1963 it is.
