Congratulations! One's first Marantz is worth a little celebration. The 2230 is widely praised (in some older threads here) for it's sweet sound. Some like it the best of all the 22XX models, or at least the lower-powered ones.

Does yours have the engraved faceplate, that some of these had? I can't tell from the pic. Either way, it's a nice receiver! :music: :thmbsp:

Seller just emailed that he dropped it, breaking the face plate. Not so stoked. :sigh:

I might just wait for Rob to have one for sale.

I could be wrong but it looks like it had some led lights(purple looking) put in somewhere along the line.

That's a real bummer. I wouldn't be surprised if the only thing he actually "dropped" was the Ebay transaction fee that he won't have to pay from not having to sell the 2230 to you at such a good price. But, that's just me speculating.....:D

Certainly crossed my mind as well. :scratch2:

Breaking the faceplate!?! That's aluminum! Perhaps he means that he broke the plexiglass inside.
Hopefully it just came unglued, that glue gets pretty brittle with age.

Good luck.

Listed it in Tuners /Tube Tuners with a buy it now price of $50.00 , plus another $50.00 for shipping .
Hope the seller makes it right for you soulfarmer ....

I'd email him and ask him to send a picture, because if it's not too bad you still want it. Then you'd know if he's telling the truth.

Soulfarmer, Thanks for sparking my memory on first Marantz.
I was given a 2230,(engraved), a couple of months ago. Sat for 15 years or so, Poorman variac'd it and it came right up. All the lights, everything working, except pots are scratchy.
Bad part was it has no feet: broken off?????? No visible damage otherwise.
I put it aside to do some speakers.
Now that you've reminded me I think I'll hunt for some legs for the old girl and clean it up. Get it in the rotation, since it seems to have some glowing reports.

A lot of old M's don't have feet for one reason or another - probably most commonly because if they were in the wooden case they didn't get (couldn't have) feet. If somebody tossed or sold the case it wouldn't have feet.

The evil eBay parting-out trolls love to find obscure things like that - "hey did you know people pay good money for the wood cases for them old stereos? buy em up and part them out separately!" For instance, I've seen lots of guitars and amps parted out by guys pretending they don't have the whole thing, until you search their auction history and you realize they took a perfectly good vintage unit and parted it out because the economics made more money. But I digress...

I have a small stash of rubber feet picked up from some electronics surplus joint or other (wish I'd gotten 10x as many they are so handy...) I just "re-feeted" my 2220 a week or two ago and it's so much better than lying flat. The feet I have are a scosh too tall but I actually like the 'floating' look and of course ventilation would be better that way...

One nice design feature of the Marantz are that the bottom cover has overlarge holes for the feet so when you're working on the unit and have it 'right side up' it can still sit on it's feet, unlike units where the feet screw to the bottom panel...

Sorry V.R.V.B.S, I phrased that incorrectly.
All the feet ARE broken off with little bits left behind.
I just can't imagine how that could happen.

I am happy to know however, that if there are no feet, yours is the most likely scenario. Thank you.
