I am quite amazed...no rather blown away of how the old Sl1210MK2 sounds! People who find these decks for a fistful of dollars must be making their bargain of their analogue lifetime for sure!

I would love to do some serious listening on these newer editions though!

300 people with more money than they can spend in a lifetime that will buy them just so they can say they did. Why not. I'm sure there are 900 more across the globe in the same position that will buy them up when released. If they released 10,000 of them at $300 a large percentage of these same buyers would likely not be interested.

$4000 is kind of ridiculous, but some will pay that just to be 'first'. If a Hanpin with a black paint job and a Pioneer badge on it goes for $700, I can't see how a new, improved Technics shouldn't go for twice that. I think much about $2000 it starts to get a little silly, though. If they have to recoup their costs for engineering this new marvel and the price point is over 2 grand, then there are some big budgetary issues in R&D at Technics. I mean, it's only made of what it's made of. Added R&D recoup goes a distance, but beyond a point once can only conclude that A.) They're gouging or B.) They're incredibly wasteful and inefficient. Either of which shouldn't be rewarded.

Remember, this isn't a group of artisans huddled in a tiny shop, this is an enormous corporation.

Well it´s still very much cheaper than a VPI DD or a Brinkmann Bardo. Very much.
