Fisher C800 Contemporary

I'll see if I can find the original cone tweet from the C800, from before I swapped the Medalist II mid, L-pads and crossover parts in. I might have tossed that stuff out when I moved.

While you have that dial glass out, replace the light gaskets at the sides, if you didn't do it already. Trim some self-adhesive foam weatherstripping from an auto parts store down, or buy some closed-cell craft foam at Hobby Lobby and attach it with contact cement. Yours has a lot less light leakage than most dials I've seen. Usually the original gaskets dry out and shrink horribly.

I'm not certain that I want to risk trying to remove that dial glass again. The original cork gaskets were still in good shape and just needed to be re-glued. The glass fits quite snugly against them and they still seal quite well. I like the fact that I was able to re-use the original gaskets and the minimal leakage is hardly noticeable.

Thanks Larry! I was able to free the TT from the mounting board and have it set up in my repair jig that allows me to rotate it freely (top to bottom). I think I'll probably send the idler off to Terry Witt to have it resurfaced while I work on the rest of the TT. Although the idler is still surprisingly soft for its age, I think it would be best to have it rebuilt.

Found the original cone tweeter and crossover caps (not sure at all why I still have it).

The wax cap is 2uF, 50VDC. The cardboard cap is 20uF, 25VDC.

And, I just got the automatic functions of the TT working. All cleaned up, lubed and working very nicely. Currently groovin' to a Capital label 78 of Nat "King" Cole w/ the Nelson Riddle Orchestra; Unforgettable on one side and My First and My Last Love on the other. Speed is very good according to my strobe disc. This thing is sweet!!! :thmbsp:

If you want to add some sparkle, get one of those Foster horns that were used in the Zenith Allegro speakers to replace the Jensen cone tweet. Both sound good, the Foster goes a bit higher. Mounting pattern is the same.
 
I think I'll try replacing the speaker caps first. I'd like to keep it as close to stock/original as possible.

Time to try out the external speaker connection. I'm thinking one of my Rectilinear III's.

Yeah, I even got the platter brake working again. It was much harder to work on/clean/lube than the AT-6 changer in my '63 Custom Electra. I was actually shocked at how good the condition of both stylus' are. And not that I won't recap it, but there is absolutely zero hum/noise in the receiver. I still need to do the grill cloth as well.

Oh YEAH! Horizontal orientation and basically the same colors. The striations look a bit large, but it's close enough for Gov't work. That would work for my '51 Coronet, the 59 610 Consolette and 560 Companion.

Where'd you find that Dave???
