Fixing Onkyo CP-1400

Hi all, I’m new to turntables and recently got my dad’s old set up which has been neglected. He said it was a wedding gift and he’s never used the turntable.

So far I have cleaned the dust off and saw that it needs a new belt. When I turned it on the motor was working. I was also thinking about getting a dust cover and replacing the stylus since the only protection it had was a piece of painter’s tape covering it...

My question is does the stylus need to be replace if it’s never been used? And is there anything else I should try to check or replace? Thank you!

Welcome to AK!
More than likely the cartridge is fine if it's unused. There are some that don't age well.
You should give more info about the cartridge. With that, we can tell you more.
Does the turntable have a bearing that you can clean and oil?

Yeah I tried looking up the cartridge earlier and nothing came up. If I get it running and everything works alright I think I’ll look into getting a new cartridge. And thanks I’ll post updates!
