G8000 with no sound

Just need to bias and set DC offset, should come out of protection if the protection is working properly.
It also needs to come off the dim bulb to come out of protection.

i might be mistaken as often are but i thought it came out of protect sans the driver boards . only the op knows for sure .
as a learning thing for myself why does it need the drivers boards installed for the protect circuit to work ? it could be a clue to the current problem .
 
Ok..... Here we go!
Put it on mains and she fired up and the protection flashed and went green with relay click!
Went ahead and dialed in bias to 16 and dc offset to zero easily.
Hell yeah!!!!!!! :jump:

Going to let it play for quite awhile to insure no hiccups.

I'm in the camp of changing main filter Caps in these old receivers. It really seems to make a difference.
It's this one no different?
They seem in great physical shape although I haven't tested each one yet.

I want to thank each and everyone one of experts for getting this worthy Sansui back in action and health.
I have learned a great deal during this project and hope to continue to keep learning! :bowdown::thumbsup:

Its quite a powerful amplifier which does require full mains to actually come out of the protection mode. Its easy to forget that when you're in fault finding mode.....

I like to change the main filter caps where possible as well, there would be some good options for this amp, I'd be looking at the Nichicon LKG series.

Great to see you have a positive result, well done, now you can enjoy the receiver!!

petehall347, I'm going with a combo of bad transistors, toasty R16/20 on the driver boards and terrible condition relays, they were jet black and somewhat corroded.
And that's my story!
Will take some pictures and post once I get it back together. Thank you again.
 
was thinking the same...fusistors that crumbled.... definitely replace those caps;we use to party hard with those receivers,back in the day. :rockon:
