Waiting on a idler wheel and everything seems to be working . The new wheel will take care of the slow action on start up motor runs strong. My question is when run the turn table with no record on I have a thump sound not sure where to start.

Thanks for the reply that makes perfect sense. Didn't think it was anything with the machinics. The old girl had sat for a long time before I got it so thats more then like like where the thump coming from.

Next question when stacking records they seem to tip a lot to rest on the stand is this normal. The records lean almost to the point that the tone arm hits them. Seems like the spindle is to tall.

the idler wheel assembly should move freely on its pivot and when the turntable is off, it should not engage the spindle

can you post a photo of the entire turntable with the platter removed?

does the idler assembly spring in and out of contact with the motor spindle freely ?

did you inspect the rubber idler for flat spots or dents?

If you're idle, it might be worth cleaning the platter bearing. They tend to collect gunk. Pretty easy, you don't need to fully remove the carrier always, sometimes you can tip it over and get past the gear. The bearing isn't in a cup on these, so you can also just flush it out. There is a rubber oring at the bottom of the stack so don't let solvents sit.
