Garrard 301/401 owners club!

Thanks Nate!! WOW!!!! Every new album I pull out simply sounds cleaner, fuller, richer playing it on this table, it still baffles me how this can simply trounce my RPM 10 so drastically!!!!! There's a realism or intensity if you will with this table that makes one sit up and listen, nothing wimpy about the 301, at all!!!!! Funny thing, many folks told me the suspended plinth would not work, too many vibrationsapparently, I have not heard any thus far, the entire set up works like magic!!!! I took a huge risk on this one but in the end I think I kicked ass!!!!!

How did you do the suspension? With squash balls like the Loricraft?

The plinth came built, using springs, not ideal but I have my permanent Plinth almost complete build wise, just need to finish her off now.............

Alright, glad to see some activity! Beautiful tables guys!

Rick, the thing about these tables is the more you live with them the more you fall in love. Listen to your 301 for a couple of months then try another table, the difference is amazing. I have 4 other great tables that get NO use, my 401 sounds so much better there is no reason to use anything else!

Goldear, I just finished my move to New Orleans, I'm not sure if the o-rings made the move or not. I'm not really one to throw anything away so hopefully they will pop up. I did get them local to Seattle and suggest the small diameter ones anyway, I can find the info on them and let you know.

Well guys I am excited to see some new post, I am finally done with my monumental cross country move, got to set up the system last night! I was too tired to mount the tonearms on the garrard so hopefully that will get done today. Can't wait to listen to some records!! I also get Internet tomorrow so I will post more when I'm not on my phone.

All the best guys!

wow thanks for the offer. I will be mostly in southwest london but will be coming down from Scotland, not sure what the train route is from there. I do travel all over the uk so if not this trip maybe next time.

it looks like I will have a couple of days off right around easter so I may take a day and head over to loricraft and look around a bit. I will email them and see if I could get a little tour and take some photos for everyone. I tried to do the same on my recent trip to Cape Town, South Africa, I had emailed Andre Hanekom from Blueangelaudio.com. Andre is also a Garrard Fanatic and make of some VERY nice handmade MC cartridges. unfortunately I was very busy down there and never got the chance to make it out to his place. here are a couple of pics of his Garrards. hopefully I will be able to make it out to Loricraft on this trip.

Did you ever get a chance to see Terry at Loricraft, and listen to their stuff? I was hoping that someone with a solid plinth could compare with the suspended plinth in a non-partial review.

Finished!!!!!

I wanted to have a different colour for this baby, Rachee picked this from pics of 1960's Thunderbird!!!!

Love that colour for your plinth Rick. How is the sound compared with the other plinth? My 401 still sounds good to me riding on squash balls.

Thanks!! Thus far I have noticed a much more layered sound stage, bigger for sure, not sure if more or less bass, bass sounds perfect to me......... I have only listened to a couple of albums so its hard to say whats different and whats better............................. I will report back after some more listening......... I have ordered some Herbies TT balls to replace the wood blocks.......:thmbsp:

that blue is awesome! I have been thinking about doing a blue plinth for a while but looks like you beat me to it! man that is really nice looking, great job!! love the cream and blue. as much as I like the black tonearm a chrome one would really give it a 50's hot rod look!

Very sharp, Rick. Can't wait to see it, and hear it, in the flesh.

Good idea about getting yourself some balls.

Ya , I love the blue, keeps everything retro!!!! Its funny, when I first got the arm I was happy it was black but now with this plinth wishin it was the chrome.....

That's a heck of a nice plinth you built, Rick! I love the color.

After a brief bout of insanity, I decided to keep my 301 and use it as my main table. Other tables have been going out the door to make room.

Hey Nate, thanks for the kind words, I can't take all the credit tho.............. I have Pete next door who is a master woodworker and a shop of tools to go with that the size of my house..................... I sanded, filled, re sanded, filled, re sanded, primed, sanded, yadda yadda yadda to get that silky smooth finish, quite pleased with myself really!!!! Still can't get my head around how good this thing makes the music sound, the passion/realism and life it brings to the music is staggering, to say the least!
