same headshell is used on a lot of the AT6 family. There are two, a deep skirt version and a shallow. The deep ones are more for ceramic but you can use them with a mag cartridge. Might just need spacers to push the cartridge low enough to get the stylus out the bottom.

as for pricing though, you're dealing with stuff that hasn't been made in 50 odd years and so far as I know has no current production source. Sometimes things cost what they cost. Sometimes you'll find them cheap, other times not so much. Sometimes you can get the whole machine for less than the headshells.

My guess is you didn't pay much for the turntable, if anything at all, so 50 bucks to make it complete does not seem unreasonable.

It looks like Turntable Needles has NOS and there's a few used out there. I think I have one of these TTs up in the shelves, too high to take a quick look, I used to see plastic fantastic Garrards all the time but passed on all but the one or two I have just cause they were nearly new and a few dollars. Unfortunately for a lot of old TTs, the supply of parts is really drying up, especially table specific parts. At least it's not a spindle, those can go for silly money.

i bought the machine probably late 60's so yes not much invested have it working but bought a new tone arm that requires the slide i guess just bite the bullett and buy one before all gone.

Different arm.

The AT6 and variants have the proper headshell you're talking about. The SL65B has the same setup as the SP25Mk3 which is a flat, fixed headshell and a slide-in cartridge carrier, which is a flat piece of plastic.

oh the slider thing. I didn't realize the SL65B didn't use the same headshell as the SL65. I know the thing of which you speak. My Zero-100 has one of that type.

Yes a good number of the 'B' or Mk2 variants of Garrard models changed from a full headshell to the cartridge carrier. You sometimes have to be careful not to get caught out when buying parts!

Just in case anybody still needs it, here's a 3D printable version of it. The "adjustable" one has oval holes instead of circles so that you can move the cartridge back and forth.

The earlier AT-6, AT-60, and 70 use a proper headshell (before Plessey cost cutting). the Garrard OP has uses a C-2 slide mount cartridge carrier. The beginning of the end for Garrard quality!

I know someone who worked for Garrard during this era and the slide-in carrier was done for rigidity reasons. In vibration terms, it apparently turns in superior measurements to the standard SME/IEC type headshell connector.

not impossible its better in some technical sense, but its not a robustly built thing. The contact plating got cruddy and it was fairly easy to damage the "fingers" up inside the arm.

Because of the amount of intermittent problems this mount suffered. Rigid it was sort of. But dropping channels it also did very often. I had to unmount and remount the slide carrier every day to keep my R and L channels.

Would have been a massive improvement if they had gold plated the contacts, or maybe even nickel plate. I think it was just tinned brass and it oxidizes badly.
