How does the Lenco B55 compare to the Dual 1019, 1229 and the Garrard Lab 80 and Syncro-Lab 95? What about the Lenco L85?

Lencos can be upgraded with new plinth and have some tonearm choices. The Garrard Lab 80 is a great changer, the Synchro-Lab 95 less so. The Duals are excellent but have their quirks and are also changers. On idlers, manual beats automatics on potential and tweaking. Less complexity.

The Lenco B55 is a light platter Lenco. The more desirable Lenco models are the heavy platter decks. With that said, you can convert the B55 to a heavy platter deck fairly easily with a heavy platter and bearing modification (quite easy).

In your search you might also consider tables from Elac Miracord. Great German idlers. They can be had for decent prices and they're built like tanks. I own the 50H and 45(which was through Realistic), both of which I love(45 is used only for 78 play). The 10H is also excellent. There are others. Here's a thread for your reading pleasure:

You can't go wrong with the lenco - simply built and simple to service or upgrade - worth the investment in a decent plinth and better arm. Simplicity and quality in one package. Just buy carefully - should run silent, preferably l75 not gl75 pref 5 hole idler wheel.

Lab 80 or 10H

It looks like the Lab 80 and the 10H go for pretty good prices. How do they sound compared to the other tables discussed? If I had to choose between the Garrard Lab 80 and the Elac Miracord 10H, which would be the better table?

Miracords are excellent, if you like automatic changers.

The one with the least amount of work involved to get it running as it should run, unless you like that kind of thing. Seriously, both are terrific tables. Both will give you great performance once up and running. You really can't go wrong with either. Which is why I own 2 Lab 80's, 2 Elac's, and a Dual. They're all great.
