Gear rack/stands

Recent TT addition necessitated a new rack. Picked up a basket case SOTA and put it back together. Darned thing is 20-1/4" wide and my old rack is only 20" wide between the A-frames.

Here's the old set up. Rack was $40 on CL.

Found a Lovan 4-tier rack on Craigslist for a C-note this morning.

And while I'm at it here's the living room set-up. The rolling cabinet was $20 on CL.

I like Craigslist!

What heading or category did you use on Craigslist? Would like to search

What purpose will it serve ? The shelves are only 14" deep, which is not nearly enough for most stereo components....
A lot of media furniture i've looked were pretty shallow. I don't know why this is the case, but it has stopped mw from buying some really nice ones that i liked.

Another question:

I have two turntables, an integrated amp and a cassette deck. So looking at a four-shelf rack. Can I leave one turntable uncovered? Probably could and put that on the second shelf. And the room does not get a lot of dust so that isn't a factor. Just haven't seen anyone with two turntables in a four-or five-shelf rack system

Seen some racks/stands with pull out ~ slide out TT shelves, only ???? with those are stability & vibration issues and such.

Also seen a couple that were a T sorta configuration where the top shelf could handle two side by side TT,but again they may not be as stable as a lower wider rack/stand might be,and of course the obvious thing to consider is there needs to be room for something like that to begin with.

I know that I never liked to have a TT too close to the shelf above no matter if the cover were on it or not,it was always a bit more of a PITA than one that was on the top w/nothing in the way.

Anyhow,I hope you find what you're looking for.

Some very nice racks here, home built and bought.

I decided to make a rack for the bedroom system. Had everything on a table and it was taking up too much room. The stand is made from 130+ yr old floor joist from a house I dismantled. Shelves are from pines that came down during a storm at my parents and were cut into lumber.

Frame was stained with a mix of 2 part oil stain, 1 part boiled linseed oil, 1 part gum spirit turpentine. Shelves were just rubbed with the linseed oil. I like the contrast of the dark stand and light shelves.

I ordered my VTI rack with a 13"-rise shelf that has plenty of room for my TT. You could do something similar, where you have the base for the amp, then a 7- or 9-inch rise to the shelf for the cassette deck, then a 9" rise to the shelf for TT #1, then a 13" rise for the shelf for TT #2.

Because I have too much old, wide gear (Luxman R-1120, Yamaha CR-640, Kenwood KR-9940) I had a real hard time finding a rack that would work.

I ended up buying an old Standesign 5 off Craigslist - unfortunately I guess they're out of business, don't know what to recommend if you're looking to buy new and are in the same situation!

Here is my "rack" or something like that.
I was comparing Sansui AU 317 with Sansui AU-D33 here, that's way rack is not in original spot, but here you can see almost everything with vinyl shelf on the right side.

Looking forward for something better, until then this works for me very nice.

Solved the problem with Salamander 4-rack system. Put my new Rega RP3 on the top, my Technics 1800MKII on shelf below it and took the hinges off the cover. Now I can just lift the cover up a bit and slide it off the turntable. IT's dedicated to mono only so the Rega gets most of the play And I always use the arm holder thingy so I don't accidentally have the arm go swinging across the turntable

What AR table is that and what is the amp setup? :scratch2:

The amp is a Hitachi HA-7700. Excellent sounding MosFet 75watts. Has MC capability built in.

The Turntable is a more complicated answer. It started out as an AR-TA which is the original 1962 (?) predecessor to the XA. It's a 2-motor, single speed model. I modified it to take a Rega arm, installed new lighted switch, and mounted a Technics SL-20 dustcover. The base lip you see is actually a mitered frame that fits into the plinth via a rabbet leaving the bottom open while providing a surface to put semi-rigid rubber feet.
