Gear rack/stands

Made a stereo stand out of reclaimed pine timber from an old train station. Pegged together. The top is a slice of white pine with the live edge left intact.
White wash finish and one coat of satin varathane. :yes:

The first two photos are kind of old.

It is a continental Y112 out of a industrial tug used to pull stuff around a factory.

The front fender is from a harley full dresser and the back fender is used on trailers. I sided it with diamond plate.

Nothin fancy but practical. I picked this up at IKEA last year when I was looking for some record shelving and just now got a place cleared out to set it up. Simple little unit that works great for a small system for playing some vinyl and CDs. It's their HEMNES sofa table with the dividers uninstalled in the narrower shelves. The bottom shelves are the same size as the EXPEDIT storage shelves which makes it perfect for records. I'm guessing it'll hold close to 300 albums. $179.

Looks great! Neat and tidy. Now I feel bad for saying I don't care for the IKEA look

I did the sofa table too, and was inspired by pics posted by AK members "Snade" and "jjohnstone". I got this one used off of CL for $175.00. I think the seller said it originally came from "Room and Board" a few years ago.

This is well done for sure. Fits the period,simple,great color....tight!!!! I'm doing something close but having to add to an existing danish modern end of bed settee from 1954. (Same scale and feel.) Been looking for something that "will work"........finding a contrasting piece that works? It's just going to have to be made.

Here's mine. It's almost finished. I just need to put a couple of coats of wax on it after the 3rd coat of tung oil dries. It's 44"w x 23"D x 36"H It's my first attempt at mortise and tenon construction. (Those are shadows on the end of the shelves)

But I was wondering if you guys had any ideas on getting equipment high up off the floor? My 2 year old boy loves to press buttons open/close the tape deck etc. The other day he fiddled with the controls of my new old receiver I Just got and cranked up the volume almost to max. That scared the bejesus out of my lol.

I have a Hitachi SR804, Elac 50H, tape deck, and cd player. He can reach up around 33-34". I was thinking of mounting an Ikea Expedit 2 x 4 sideways on the wall. The problem would be running the wires, unless I did it down one side of it I guess. Any other ideas?

well it's been a while so I guess I'll show off again. Mine is all built in makes it a PITA to change things or to fix things but all and all works out beautifully

All I can say is.......WOW........ How do you deal with the heat?

That's not a bad idea. you could run the wires along the back in some black hose loom and mount that to the side of the cabinet or stand you have pictured. the other option i can think of off of the top of my head would be getting some good wall shelving units like people are using for their turn tables. Once mounted correctly they can be very sturdy.

Yeah just had the mx-2000 all tuned up. The cx-2000 is going in next week for service. I have been far too busy and poor to have everything serviced at the same time. LOL So far everything is great. I am trying to thin the heard a bit and get all of my non 100% functioning items fixed and sell what i am not keeping.

Haven't seen you on here much lately. How is the house coming along?

This is just a shelf unit I made to work with my old Pioneer set-up. I had to brace some of the shelves to hold the weight of the R2R and albums and it works pretty good. It's not quite deep enough for the turntable so I mounted a slab of marble for the turntable to sit on.

Works pretty well for a freebie.

This is my main rack system. It's a metal 19" rack on wheels and works pretty good. Lots of ventilation and it has wheels so access to the rear is easy. It also has a couple of drawers for storage. Looking at this photo I think I need to repaint the rack and clean up the gear

Yeah, I figured because of the rarity of the wood, I'd get those floors refinished. You see, I own a very old house (1915 or so) and the wood floors are actually fur, which pretty much, as far as flooring goes, doesn't exist anymore. The whole house is loaded with fur, from the whole main floor, the whole upstairs, the stairwell, the trim around the windows, to the built-in hutches between the dining room & the living room. It was one of those woods that, prior to the 1940's was used, and over-used in a lot of houses. Damn near extinct.

I've said it before adn I'll say it again, but your home is just beautiful. The floor, the color scheme on the walls, the wood trim throughout, the furniture...it's a very comfortable looking home. This is what my "ideal" home would be like, yet finding the time, money, and having the "thing" to put it together in this exact way is something that......well...as a fother of 3 it's next to impossible. But I always have your pics!!!

That's going to be one fine and rare system you'll have there when she's all tuned up and in service! I know all about the poor thing too, as my historical house has nickel and dimed me to death! That's what has absorbed most of my time lately. One day I'll be out of this rental property and back into the main house. I'm gonna have my own 2 channel room to boot... Woo hoo! That's what really keeps me going through all the restoration. Anyway, great to chat with ya and post some pics when you get it all together! Take care my friend.
