Going Digital!

Yes, I believe it is and it is outstanding.

Lizard84,

As I never took the time to compare them side by side, or behind one another - might I then ask what differences do you hear as to make you prefer said A+?, just curious as a Mini Mac user, please advise.

TIA!.

Strictly my opinion but I sense a higher level of transparency, a layer of fog removed. It gets me closer to a well mastered vinyl album without the pops & clicks.

I read much about Jriver's interface be much better but having gotten used to A+'s interface I much prefer it. It certainly is not prefect but I think it sounds better

Thanks for taking the time to respond, and while I don't believe it's an issue of opinions, in so much as going with what your ears tells you is done better makes prefect sense to me, and in my mind seeming that many tend to spend hundreds or thousands on their systems hardware, yet aren't willing to spend between $70 - $150 on audio software is beyond me, when in fact one can't even buy a decent pair of ICs under these prices.

Yet..........., re-learning our ways is a blessing in itself, so I'm on it and shall have to sit back and interface said A+ with the standard Apple Remote and give it an open-minded chance.

Thanks yet once again for explaining in said detail the differences.

Last one for today, I'd assume?, but Lizard84 - could you also explain why you obviously like the sound of PCM as opposed to DSD more?, and having just listened to this remark:

http://www.av2day.com/2015/07/kliavs-2015-rob-watts-on-dsd-and-pcm/

I'd once again like to understand your said preferences in this direction, if you would be kind enough to speculate on said topic?.

Good question, one that I may not be able to answer to your satisfaction, or mine for that matter.

I'm not certain you can say I like pcm better just yet, I just haven't had an ah ha moment as of yet. I don't have much dsd content yet and little experience. Is it me? Is it my dsd device (my oppo 105)? the case is certainly not closed by any means. I will revisit the format with native dsd 128 & 256 downloads, software and hardware. As my wife will testify, I have no problem blowing cash on audio...

Thanks again. As an BDP-105 owner as well, yet mine resides in the bedroom for Blu-Ray usage only, but one of these days I'll have to drag it onto my audio stand and try her as such.

So, I'll wait and see where this goes for both of us?, as I'm all to certain that we're both within reach of total enlightenment, and my wife puts it best as far as sharing in my passion for music as well as electronics

" I'd be running the streets, spending foolishly upon other women " or worse strung out on some sort of mind-bending drug............, in which case she loves having me close by, but after 39 years of marriage, one should form some sense of understanding as well as having the abilities to compromise said situations and find a common ground on shared joys and lifestyle adjustments.

Life's to short to continue settling, I'd say.

Enjoy both women in your life........., your wife and the system that is.

Thanks again.

It was someone's working unit who bought it secondhand, so I would think there's a very good chance it had 100+ hours.

The showdown I attended had a few people, and there was what could be called a consensus among us. Even the owner of the tubed phono admitted to some extent my Jasmine sounded the best despite that he later added he still thought his phono was able to extract some detail neither my Jasmine nor the iPhono could. But that was his sole claim.

We had a couple of different vinyl rigs. One sporting a modern high-end BD table running an LOMC Lyra, and another sporting a vintage high-end QDD table running a HOMC Benz. We thought the iPhono fared better with the HOMC setup.

Remember I said that the iPhono was 'by no means' bad at all. In fact, from the showdown my conclusion was that phono pre-amps mattered less than what I used to think in a relative sense. I've never heard the Miyajima mono (although I'd love to) but I don't think it would be bottle-necked badly by an iPhono at all.

FWIW, the owner of the iPhono didn't feel he really needed to upgrade his iPhono after the showdown seeing that the difference was not sky-crumbling.

It is a very competent unit. Just not better than other value-for-money phonos in higher price ranges. Not just IMO but a view shared by the majority in the showdown.

So I've heard a Miyajima Jiro on a Brinkmann table hooked up through a Gram Slee phono to a Yamamoto 45

So I've heard a Miyajima Zero on a Brinkmann table hooked up through a Gram Slee phono to a Herron pre & Yamamoto 45 this morning. A pair of FR drivers in horn cabs. Amazing mono cartridge! I can see how Lee would've been floored.

This person addresses exactly why i started my thread Confused
About Redbook and DSD and talks about what i posted, lack of depth and soundstage with DSD. I was starting to doubt my abilities but that short video reaffirmed my impressions of DSD sounding a little flat.

Dave....I listened to the video and I have to disagree with him as well as DSD sounding flat. It's true DSD is one bit. naturally more bits greater resolution. But that's not to say DSD hasn't got lłPgood resolution.....I beg to differ because I hear more resolution with DSD 128 than high Rez PCM. I'm not going to pretend the technology of it all is my major....far from it. But I do know, every time I've listen to DSD128 it was superior to PCM in everything other than weight! I heard with my own ears, PCM is weightier than DSD, but this is not a night a day thing....it's slightly more weighted.

The higher the sample rate. The more distortion. That's a fact! So DSD is much higher in sample rate than PCM...so why aren't those who own great DSD DACs not hearing any distortion? Another thing....the higher the sample rate, the more detailed it will be. This explains why every one that hears it for the first time say I hear more detail. So for me and my ears and every one who has listen with me agrees ....DSD is greater

I agree with what you say as for clarity and resolution but for me my sound stage is smaller, the placement of musicians and instruments seems confined to between and in back of the speakers.

I have not given up on DSD as i can hear hints of greatness, i just need to unlock that other door for the rest and as you know i`m working on that.:thmbsp:

Just trying to understand - what do you mean by more detail?

When I say detail, I mean I hear small nuances that I don't hear in PCM....I believe the software processing power of higher rates and with some of the more advanced filters....distortion is kept low and processing though some of the DSP digital filters, detail thats on a CD that you never hear, can be heard with DSD.

Sound stage problems? Thats a new one on me concerning DSD.

Basically what I was hinting at once again, is that it seems different companies are approaching DSD quite differently then one another - after all I'm to assume this guy is said video works with Chord Electronics and is referring to their Hugo?, while I know cost a great deal more then any of the iFi Audio based DACs, but for the life of me..........., I'm thinking it's the way they actually voiced these DACs on the slightly richer - creamier side that aids them in complimenting DSD as opposed to doing harm, as it seems not everyone knows how to get the best from it.

Like my little Brotha, I don't suffer from an unnatural flat sound or weak sound staging in the least, but he and I had stated what I'd guess we both key as key factors in obtaining the very best from said DACs - in my mind ( and I'd think that Byron would agree ) the Neutral USB Cable seems to enhance spartan location of every said musician/instrument as if each occupies itheir very own positioning across the entire stage as heard in the finer acoustically correct concert halls all over the planet, but as we all should know?, the right cabling loom is vital in either making or breaking the preformance of any given component or system is the absolute truth as far as my over 11 years of utilizing the loans of cables from either friends or the Cable Company over said period of time - yet many continue to rely upon cables with slightly different signatures and/or strengths and then wonder why we hear what we do, while they do not.

Everything in ones system has to form that sense of " Synergy " that certain British companies were trying to reinforce upon the American mindset as far back as the 50s, yet we tend to place more of an emphasis on how to obtain items based upon grading levels via the various rags since day one, yet fail to rely upon the most important tools to which God has given us " Our Ears ".

Either through circumstance, or luck some come across certain tandems that simply preform more beautifully then others collectively - and it's not a matter of system or hearing dependence that comes into account, as it's more about a boarder consensus of those whom are willing to follow said truths or recommendations that reach a common agreement on said matters as far as sonics go - like certain tubes I'm very very very fond of I tend to hoard, and upon sharing a few of them with close friend, generally hear **** like - I never heard of this or that brand............, but you aren't getting it back as it sounds wonderful in my system - yet in reality this is seen/heard as generalization based upon what's more like 8 - 14 guys are hearing in totally different systems each with their own set of priorities - so why is there are always several guys whom ears we tend to trust more then others?, it's simple - they hear certain things others merely aren't focused upon that hides within the actual manner in which the notes come together musically, and has nothing if anything to do with what I refer to as

" Hi-Fi Effects " to which like Linn/Naim preached back in their heydays, soundstage seems to be an American thing, not a universal one.

Just something to chew on............, it's not as complicated as it sounds, either it sounds right, or it doesn't.

Peace Beyond To You All.

* [ Off Topic Alert ]

But one that I merely didn't feel up to placing anywhere else seeming this has become somewhat of a thread to which I'm enjoying more then ever - so here goes........., as one of those types whom believes in isolation devices and platforms as well as well made stands for audio components down to the disc coupling devices their spikes rest on ( Track Audio Speaker Spikes in my case ), and having only fallen in love with two different isolation footers since 2003, namely a set of Shun Mook Super Diamond Resonators and Symposium Acoustics Rollerblock Jr's, I'm trying to decide upon which to use underneath my Mac Mini and iDSD Micro DAC and felt it best if I were to see what the consensus are between the likes of either Nordost Sort Kones ( AC ) or Stillponts Ultra Mini's used in said locations, and was wondering if any of you've ventured out and tried either?, and if so........, what's your take on either?.

These reviews/article got me started thinking about both:

http://www.nordost.com/images/review-images/review-pdf/Sort-Kone-AbsolutSound-Review.pdf

http://hifi-advice.com/Stillpoints-review-1.html

But as my dealer has informed me they no longer carry Nordost, as it seems they didn't want to have their wares - cabling looms or otherwise compared to other firms stuff, I'm unable to demo them side by side in our home, hence my inquires on both.

And now, back on point - forgive me for the slight distraction Brotha B.

Please share your experiences good, bad or indifferently, as this is something I'm looking to pursue shortly, and would like to hear each of your views on said matter.

TIA!.

I went with two sets of the Stillpoints Ultra Mini's and bases by the way, I'm sorry this seemed as if it was hard for you guys to assist me with, yet it pays to be resourceful as well as self-reliant on most things as it regards ones system after all.

Now I have 4 ifi boxes in the mix . I am using a I-link powered by a I usb feeding a ifi - micro DSD powered by a second iusb . I am using the BNC conection to the DSD
I am using Chanel D pure music up sampling red book to 192 kHz . This is the best my system ever sounded . Simply outstanding . It's all there . Next on the list the Uptone Regen . If this could get better ?
