Going Digital!

You feel battery power in turbo is better than Direct mode with the battery off? Not so over here. I have tons of slam as well.

When the IFI micro DSD is set on direct it by passes the volume control .
When put on turbo mode it runs only on battery power and will not charge unless you turn it off . In normal mode it runs on usb power only and does not charge the battery . In econo mode it runs on usb power and charges the battery at the same time . My point is the battery has more current available to
The unit then the iusb does . The test. Is if it has more slam on battery .
I feel the iusb Is a little light on the power . I hope the REGEN with a good power
Supply will make it more lively .

No worries,

I'm pretty happy with my rig also, I am going to catch hell for a little add I just finished 15 minutes ago. Can you tell what it is?

The wife misses most of my gear exchanges but she may flip on this until I have her take a seat and listen.

It's amazing what just 3 2x2 absorption panels can do for a room!

P.S. This is digital related because I'm listening to Tidal taking the photo...

Oh..you added panels? Great! Wish I could be there to take a listen! Congrats on a very nice system!

My PSU is plugged into a very nice Furman...which is plugged into a Oyaide electrical outlet. Much better than a standard outlet. My DAC's digital signal comes out a very clean analogue signal into the hybrid preamp and through a 150 watt class A hybrid power amp. I'm not missing any slam...or anything for that matter. I've very good USB cables between the PSU and the DAC and very good RCA's from DAC to preamp as well as Into the amp and out to speakers....naw I have lots of slam. No battery power here. If your missing slam off the electrical..may I suggest ..something's a miss?

Also...you do know there is a new iUSB PSU as well as a new iPower PSU out don't you? They are improvements.

Hey little Brotha,

There you are, it's nice to see that you took a small break from the family things to chime in, as it has been rather weird without seeing your post, but in all true manners of handling life's greater rewards when it comes to family, friends, food, drink and especially music........., I hear ya loud and clear.

And I'm still leaving the lights on for you, should you ever need to find your way home?.

Peace little Brotha.

Nice thing is I needed an extra connector for one of my devices and sent an email to hdplex about it. He was great with the info and included the extra connectors I needed at no additional charge.

I have used it for over a year now and can attest that it is well built and I feel worth the money. FWIW I have the first version, the new version has adjustable voltage on the 9v rail.

BeerCan,

Thanks for adding the extra insight into the differences between the original model and said current version, it's nice to know that I've an affordable option as far as PSU go that can be used in tandem with the Mac Mini, as I was trying to avoid spending $1.000 on that UpTone Audio JS-2 unit............, so once again this thread has obviously grown to be a big advantage to those of us whom continue to follow it.

It has made it to the top of my list.

Thanks again.

I can personally attest to the improvement presented to one system using the Oyaide Electric R-1 AC Outlet - Neutral Cable USB Cable as well as the iFi Audio iPower AC Cord which I've heard on the original iUSB Power - yet was purchased in advance to be used with the Regen upon its arrival in a couple of weeks.

Slam is as Byron has stated can be done by these methods as well as ones choice in cabling and tubes ( for those whom know better and use them ) as means of voicing ones system in a more transparent and neutral manner - yet in the end, we all have to select our flavors very carefully, as it shall always come down to how one uses said combination of items, that creates the end result........., those that don't believe in cabling looms, or combining this tube brand with another to create a wholistic approach shall forever be searching for the Abso!ute Illusion, when a few well chosen tweaks here and there is all a system needs, it's referenced to as finalizing or voicing, and it's done by ear, no measurements of graphs require, just effort in bringing out the best in each component as it stands, and please don't forget isolation devices|platforms as all of this matters.

Transparency and Neutrality should be ones main goal in assessing ones systems merits.

Back to you Brotha B.

The point I am trying to make is I feel the IFI DSD micro needs more power than
Than the IUSB can provide . The IDSD on battery has more current to drive it
I have 2 iusb power supply's one of them is the new style . The difference I noticed using the jays LPS was a more dynamic presentation . I use the DAC in
PCM mode which I belive uses more power . As in DSD the DAC uses just a filter
I have a deadicated 20 amp service for my audio system and good cabling and
Clean AC power .

I'm not arguing the merits of a better PSU|LPS by any stretch of ones imagination, otherwise I've have invested in one for the Regen, or looking into the HDPlex, so I'm with you on the importance of said devices and then some.

However I've yet to see any photos of the newer iUSB Power, am I missing something?, as I can't find it anywhere.

And it's nice to see someone else taking clean power as a means of assuring their system is playing up to par, yet can I ask if you've gone so far as to address the importance of " Quiet AC Lines? ", but adding devices like the Audioprism Quietlines or PS Audio Noise Harvesters?, yet I've taken this one even further in utilizing 3 Isotek Systems Neoplugs with two setup on the peripheral extremes of my system with another placed onto the line distributor with great effects as heard from a Noise Sniffer, and one would be surprised just how dirty and noisy our main lines are its not even funny.

Once again, like you..........., I try to take ever little detail into account in isolating the entire system|signal path well before hand, down to isolating all three stands - amp - rack and speaker stands from the carpeting by using Track Audio Speaker Spike Kit atop Isoclear Power TT-008 Tip Toe Bases.

Yes, some might see it as over the top?, but addressing external vibrations is just as vital as the ones within each component as well. Call me whack.........., and I'll raise my hands within seconds gladly - but then again, I'm one of those whom hears the effects such attention to detail brings to ones system, and will gladly have someone toss a few stones my way, but just be certain not to miss.

:smoke:_oh

I use a Shunyata defender in my AC power strip . I use ERS paper under my digital pre amp . I use furtech power cords for my amps . My amps are on rolling wood cutting boards. I use bamboo cutting boards under my DAC and power supplys and the Mac Mini
I love to tweak . In my past I was a self employed engine builder. This hobby is my outlet
For relaxation and fun . Loving it

I wont argue a better dedicated PSU either! Its well known across different types of electronics and circles what a dedicated PSU can bring to the table. So im with you there. But im not missing any slam as is....the better dedicted PSU will add and enhance the music while doing a better job.:music::D But the iUSB as is in direct mode with the battery off is better in my system.

Well..........., go head then fella!, I've to give credit where it's due. Job well done.

Thanks for the recommendation on the HDPLEX LPS that one would power my Mac min
And the G- RAID external hard drive at the same time . Next tweak on the list .
Awaiting the REGEN for now . If I keep this up my stylus will last as long as me .

Your welcome.

And preserving ones vinyl and|or stylus isn't such a bad concept, once you really think about it.

Tweaks indeed.

Little Brotha,

As you know........., I get devices and they sit for awhile before I take time to listen to them, so you're more then welcome to borrow my Regen and LPS once both have found their way into the crib. As I'm a firm believer it's best to heard things for oneself as opposed to merely going upon someone's words without actually knowing what's what for yourself.

They're yours for the asking.

Peace,
O_oh

Oh, thanks for the offer....I've heard the REGEN in some one else's system, but really didn't know how much of a improvement it was. Steve told me its a great improvement so I have no doubt it work. Im not really in the upgrade mood as of now....a few days ago I ordered those magic tubes just for the heck of it....but as of now, no mind for much of tweaking as im just enjoying music after being away from it a good little while.

In a minute!

It's all good..........., and trust me, there are times where I'm not to much searching for these tweaks or slight improvements, but I'm a believer in what I've learn over the years since working audio retailing, and that's to never write anything off just because it can't be explained or measured, but ones ears|senses are both very capable of letting the end user know without a doubt in their minds is something has changed for the better.

And yes, I've spotted mentioning of those MAD Scientist Glass Tubes, please let me know you haven't gone that tweaks?, as I'm glad to send an aluminum foil helmet your way that was used in the film - Signs with Mel Gibson.

And of course I'm pulling your chain, you know me better then that by now..........., as always, little Brotha, do you.

In a minute Blood.

And here we've another strong argument in favor of double and quad DSD:

http://positive-feedback.com/audio-discourse/impressions-the-merging-technology-nadac-mc-8-dsd-dac/

I can't speak for what some are hearing with their DACs, but I'd say that these humbly priced iFi Audio DACs are doing DSD justice, and then some........., I'm inclined once again to say it's in the voicing process of how these render the music itself, but not being the technical type, I'm basing this on gut instincts.

As the jargon goes " YMMV ".

enginedr,

You've mail.

46.004 hits.

And now this thread is dying, maybe it should've been headed as " iFi Aidio Micro iDSD DAC|iUSB Power, as their threads elsewhere seem to go on forever.

O_oh well, it was very helpful in assisting me in finding my way onto some simply lovable made and sounding devices, to which Brotha B, I'm forever grateful.

Peace Beyond To Each And Everyone Of You and Yours.

This is a great thread . All the members involved gained much from it . Let's keep it going
Much sq to be gained with better power supply's REGEN devices and such . Going digital
Says it all . Great sound without vinyl . It's here it's now and only getting better
Keep the posts going .
