Big Guy....you've just put all the nay Sayers to shame! Here you are listening to USB cables and talking about the sound and how you like this and that and so forth. Implying they arent alike....contrary to the nay sayers. After all its a "data cable" they proclaim...."it just 1's and 0's" they say... " so how could that have a different sound"? But here you are saying they are different! I hope some of them are listening and reading....because I too know USB cables aren't
all the same.
Bro....I get what you are getting at...and I know you can hear....and I know you can presume what it might sound like, but the Micro is going to change. As you've noted, I said mine was bright and had a digital edge/sound to it before it came into its own. So why are you trying cables now? Wouldn't it be easier to just let the Micro settle down before doing any critical listening to cable? I discoverd I needed one silver cable in the Micro's chain to get the best sound. Dont know if you will need silver as every system is different. I find the Micro was made to have an analog sound to it.
I've not much time this week for a lots of listening....lots of things in the fire, so once im done, I will be back to my normal listening and looking for new cables for the Micro as I am using the stoke usb cables that came with it. I do have a custom interconnect, so I will be getting new USB cables.
Thanks for doing the research for me and giving me some nice choices...You've made my work load a lot easier.
Also I did get a chance to speak at length with Lukasz , He loves Nordost....dont know if they make a USB cable...if they do, you may want to borrow one for TCC.
Brotha B,
As you should know by now?, I've never been much of a follower and could care less what the Naysayers have to say - as I'm and always have been active in my belief in tweaks as far as isolating every component in my system, and to me the cabling looms has always been a means of voicing " Mi-Fi " to suit my ears/senses as I'm not one of those whom believes in leaving things to chance and merely rely upon the throw away cables including in the packages to see me through - no far from it.
I decided to try the different USBs as a means of understanding the iDSD Micro DAC/iUSB Power both before and after they've settled in, as I then feel it offers me more insight into which flavor is needed at said time, and since I can merely pay for shipping of said cables, I figured why wait?, because in the end it also gives me the opportunity to study the construction of said cables before hand as well as just see what's what as is.
And you better believe a pair of Nordost Blue Heaven 2.0 Data USB Cables are indeed on my list of ones to actually own, if nothing else........, I'm quite good at Googling my behind off, even so much as to translate many reviews/articles from around the globe as a means of gaining knowledge upon anything audio related - and I for one can hear grave differences between any given IC - LS Cable - AC Cord - Isolation Feet/Devices/Platforms and can say proudly I'm also a firm believer that everything audio related has an effect upon ones system, good, bad or indifferently.
But once again, said systems has to be both transparent and neutral enough to be capable of resolving said differences to begin with, lest some might continue looking at said wares as Black Magic or Voodoo..........., in my mind it's about enhancing my systems signature through the means of said cables - and I can admit I see/hear them as nothing more then modern day means of tone controls of old, and as we both know..........., it's always about the flavoring, some cultures in real life dig different spices on their servings - I not one to dig overly warm stew ( or better put creamier sounding systems which I often refer to as sleepy time type systems, that are dull and boring to my ears ) I tend to like a system that's going to pull me close to the edge of my seat ( now that's funny ) yet not pull me onto the floor ( even funnier ) with any fake sense of detailing at the expense of tonality - texture - timbre - purity or naturalness.
But as always, it's all subjective at best - but once again............, I admittedly love my spices.
You Dig? ( in a Samuel L. Jackson sort of loud voice ).
In the end, said voicing helps me find my way into the light, and out of the shadows of enlightenment as well as contentment.
More insight.
Brotha Black,
I feel you on the naysayers but I've to go with the flow on what I know makes all the difference in the world - cables. As you know all to well one brand/size doesn't fit all, but one can get general ideas of what type of metallurgy works within any given system,,because your ears and speakers with both tell you when something's either off, or needed it's that simple.
But it seems some just don't understand the truth of the matter is that cables aren't anything more then tone controls like they used to have on preamps and receivers back in the day, cables either add more detail and resolution and snap and attack ( silver ) or makes the system mellower - creamier - more laid-back and refined ( copper ), so if these same guys whom claim they can hear?, then why not invest into ones system where it counts?, I mean cats buy $2.500 CD Players and settle on a pair of $100 ICs believing it's magical!, hell....., not me, I'd much rather go ahead and spend say upwards of $800 - $1.250 which is half the cost invested into ones Source and where the most vital cable needs to reside to begin with, because it allows everything to pass downstream - does it not?.
I mean if cats are content with the amplification and speakers and so on what's next?, cabling and isolation it.........., otherwise one isn't hearing it at its best no matter what one says......, it isn't so.
That's why of late I've gone back and read about the cables made in Asian based countries more then most, because in hindsight those in the know - know the very best wiring techniques were developed there - I'm not just talking Japan, I'm talking Hong Kong and Taiwan as well, so in going after the Acoustic Revive USB 1.0LPS ( $500 ) in truth it's cheap one we begin looking at the total cost of our systems, so why settle.
Anyways here's an example of what I'm getting at:

Buy right once and be done - or buy unwisely and spend twice as much more times then needed.
Get it?.
Onwards and Outwards as always - thinking that is.
Peace little Brotha, catch you on the dark side of neutrality ( if you catch my drift? ).
:tears:_oh
