Goodwill/SA/Thrift Store Discussions & Finds

An Optonica RP7100 turntable left on the side of the road. Works perfectly - even the kooky track finder. The matching amp had already gone but I picked up the tuner. Wish I hadn't. It futzed and filled the house with the worst-smelling smoke I've ever come across.

Onkyo CP-1020F TT w/ Ortofon LM10
RME Electrovoice 4350-A (tubed short wave radio - 1957-59)
Sansui 661
Marantz 2270
Marantz Imperial 7's

All of the above for $55. :)

Need to clean every thing up. Plan on sanding and re-staining the 7's. The mids are shot, as normal.

That RME reciever you snagged is:

A great performer

Great find!!!

The GW I can get to easily never has much. I am usually jealous when I read this thread.

I pulled a JVC R-K10 a while ago and then a Toshiba SA-420 surprised me. The JVC is nothing much, fun to play with. JVC has some interesting designs but this one is early 80s and seems to have gone the way of a lot of stuff from then with looks. The Toshiba is older. Not very powerful but a big beast. That store is probably too well picked. Its always busy. I went a few days early but never saw much.

Then they opened a new store closer to me. The first few weeks it was a feeding frenzy! You'd think people had never been to a GW before. Didn't see anything good, I pretty much gave up on GW.

Yesterday, I ran through a few dozen yard sales and didn't see much of anything. So I swung in the new GW just for giggles. Bang, A Pioneer SX-424, $15. Walked in the back to the furniture and Bang-Bang. Advent Heritage towers, $30. I guess I'll have to check there more and have a little faith!

The Pioneer works fine. The stereo bulb is out. The case is OK. BUT, it has a pair of speaker plugs! You can pay $20+ just for those.

The Advents cleaned up nice! There are some small tears in the surrounds. I'll refoam them when I can stop listening to them! These puppies are Nice! They fit my ears well. Clear highs, nice loud smooth bass.

Onkyo T-4120 Tuner/Onkyo TA-W450 Cassette

Onkyo T-4120 Florescent display is bright, presets and tuner work. very nice
companion cassette deck
ONKYO TA-w450 deck w/ remote
both drives work, Remote still had OEM batteries in it.

a few scratches, Tuner seems very solid. Now all I need are some cassette tapes!

Two days ago I found 5 NHT Super Zero speakers, a SW1P and SA1 amp with speaker stands and wall mounting hardware at an estate sale for $100 bucks. Did not know anything about the speakers, but could tell from the build quality that they might be cool. Seems people dig them. They are hooked up and sound pretty nice!

Craig was a Sanyo brand and that tt looks very much like a same vintage Sanyo table. I suspect it's another CEC oem.

That's what we figured out when I had mine in the house. It's like an ugly version of a Marantz 6100. :lmao:

I thot Craig was a marketing brand for Pioneer autosound in the '60s, I think I remember Craig/Pioneer underdash 8-track players.

I just got into this "hobby" a week ago...

These are the finds since 11th May 2010.

NAD 7100 receiver(late '80s) & Marantz CC47 cd found near apt trash.
Mitsubishi MS 40 speakers (late '70s) from college yard sale for $10
Pioneer PL 400 TT (mint) pvt seller $30

I can't believe these things sound somewhat better than my $1400 stereo gear.

I'm a newbie to Audiokarma but I've been collecting off and on since the mid-'80s. Here's a couple of my better thrift store finds:

Thorens TD125 with SME 3012 tonearm (I think): $3 (sold)
Thorens TD125: $10 (Still have that one)
Technics SL-1700 with cartridge (no feet): $5
Onkyo TX-8500 mkII: $10
Yamaha M-85 power amp: $35
Bose 901 series 1's: $10/pair
Tannoy T185's: $14/pair
Pioneer RT-901 reel to reel (VERY dusty): $5

There's a company where I live that used to handle lots of shipping-damaged merchandise that they would auction by the pallet. I got some killer deals at their
monthly electronics sale:

Thorens TD125 with no platter and no tonearm: gave a guy a handful of change for it
as part of a pallet of stuff he bought but didn't want.
Pioneer SX-1280: FREE! Part of a pallet of stuff I bought- broken front glass, missing most of the knobs, broken antenna, chipped cooling fins, but WORKED GREAT! I've repaired most of the damage, replaced the knobs, antenna, etc., and still enjoy using it. The good news was that there was some kind of digital recorder on the pallet that I sold to more than cover the cost of the 1280!
