Oh god, thrift stores...I have an addiction. The majority of my stereo equipment is from thrift stores. A few highlights:
Nakamichi 600 cassette deck (but this doesn't really count because somebody noticed what it was and repriced it fairly high. Had a blue sticker slapped on top of a green sticker). Works, but missing the record button. Been meaning to 3D print one, but record is a bit more complicated because of the 3 colours.
I got a GamuT CD1 for 10 bucks. Clearly somebody failed to notice the 10mm thick milled aluminum faceplate when they were pricing it. I picked it up purely because I had been looking for a CD player to match my 70s stereo, I didn't realize it was $3000 USD when new (which was a massive scam by the way). Now, it doesn't work super well, tends to have issues reading discs. I spent some time working on it and sort of made it better, and learned at the the problem is the cheap Sony disc mechanism not aligning quite right with the disc. To be clear, I consider this to be GamuT's fault, not Sony's; the way they mount this mechanism is apallingly stupid and I'm sure it's not what Sony recommended. I didn't have much time this summer, but over the winter I have a plan to 3D print some better mounts with adjustable height at all 4 corners. I'm hoping that will fix the problem for good.
Sony PS-LX520, 20 bucks. Pretty decent linear tracker, mainly impressive because it works perfectly. Just needed a new needle. Sorry for the crappy photo, I don't have a good one on hand and it's dark ATM.
Yamaha T-550, has pretty lights. Works perfectly but I get crap reception here.
Sony Carbocon SS-3150 speakers. Not a lot of love out there for these, but they look great and sound excellent. I think they were 10 bucks?
Also, this floppy disk controller card, which is mainly cool for the box. It has nothing to do with audio, but it looks cool.
and of course my pretty blue Selectric, which has nothing to do with stereos but it's awesome. I keep it in my office's "IBM corner of evil".
