Goodwill/SA/Thrift Store Discussions & Finds

Went to the local will of good on my lunch, pulled a Calumet Cambo 4x5 view camera with a minty Schneider Symmar 150mm f/5.6 lens. Used these extensively in college as a photo major, was super excited to find this one for 45 bucks. Everything seems to be in good shape. Just need to find a tripod for it lol. Can't use my carbon pod with a camera this heavy.

There were a few Calumet photo stores in Chicago area I used to frequent. Nice find.

Didn't really need it, but when I see a decent single spin CD player for $20 or less, I can't help myself.
1991 Technics MASH.

I had the matching SA GX 500 receiver when it was new, and another location of the same thrift had it a couple of months ago.
Kicking myself for not getting it. I'm pretty sure it was actually my old one, as it was in the same neighborhood where I gave it to a friend.
I really liked that spectrum analyzer display.
I've been looking for a working single disc player to complete my little system. It's only a matter of time before a working one appears...though they're more scarce now.
I got a 80's Yamaha pre, 90's Rotel tuner, and 90's Arcam power.

On my way to pick up my grandson yesterday(Friday) for the weekend, I stopped by a Value Village where my stepdaughter picked up a Soborg Mobler Rosewood and Rattan bench on Thursday night. I did find something, even if it wasn't an MCM piece. I found a Philips FC-911 dual cassette deck. I normally don't pick dual cassette decks up, but it had good weight, a cool look, and everything worked! I ran it on both decks last night and everything was fine. Opened it up, and it looks pretty good inside too. I just need to lubricate the record units door a bit.

I love buck knives.

VHS Horror motherlode at goodwill. Quarter a piece. I can count on one hand the number of original horror tapes I've found at thrifts over the years. To find this many at once is insane, might be a once in a lifetime find. All are clean and in good shape. The Night of the Living Dead original went to my good friend who, when he was a teenager, spent an entire summer working to save up to buy this exact edition of the tape. He went on to a career in the horror industry, and became close friends with George A Romero. His face lit up when I gave it to him. His copy had long been worn out and thrown out by his parents.

Saver’s score of mostly semi-obscure 20th century composers. $1.99 each!

Another non audio find. Signed Indian pottery. Signed by Arthur and Hilda Coriz. Lots of cool pottery today.
Nice! Up here, we don't see much of that style of pottery. However we do get some of the Northern Ontario pottery, and there are some beautiful examples of that in my own collection. No pictures at the moment. They are in my grandson's room.

Here was a nice TEAC CDP for under $15. Had not found a good single Disc CDP in a loooong time. They put it on senior day the day before and I never saw it. Missed it in their pond of BPC I guess. Surprised it lasted. This weather from hell has trapped a lot of people inside. No remote unfortunately. Might have been one of the last in this series production. That's a late date for this unit.

RadioShack Multiband radio. Battery compartment was caked with leaked acid, I had to chisel it out with a screwdriver and apply vinegar. Amazingly, it now works with batteries as well as AC. The dial faceplate was also peeling off, so I had to open it up and glue it back on (photo 2). Overall it's a well built radio and it sounds pretty nice. It's quite sensitive on Shortwave, even though there is not full coverage. AM is excellent, FM just OK.
