2003 model - so not exactly vintage yet, but wonderful bargain, IMO.
Pioneer Elite DV-45A for $15 from SA. Perfect shape. No remote.
I bought this one for audio CD play only. Great modding potential.
It has Burr Brown PCM1738 DAC and badly needs an upgrade to the audio path: better opamps (or perhaps, tubes), caps and resistors.
Here it is in all its naked glory:
This gold plating is to help justify the unit's original MSRP $1029:
Here is the innocent looking mighty Burr Brown:
Feeding nasty little JRC opamps that really need to go away:
Other goodies include DVD-A, SACD, and DTS:

Last Spring I found a Marantz #2235 in perfect working order exept it needed to be relamped for $15.00 in a local thrift store.:

OK I stopped by my local GW and found a Pioneer SX-680 in ok shape, needs cleaning and tuner nob is broken, and a Sansui Classique 250 it's in very good shape. Both for $8.00. Also got two TT carts one was a Pickering TLE the other was a Shure M92e for .40 each. Plus a Technics rubber mat for a turntable that was .40 cents also.
So much fun looking, and finding.

WOW nice.....i bet it sounds good for CD play as it stands.....

It does sound very nice, but... I still think vinyl records on a good TT sound better than any CD I heard, so far. According to many DIY audiophiles and the Lampizator genius, it is possible to tweak a good player until it sounds right. That is what I'm planning to do with this one and other used good players I bought for dirt cheap. Will share the experience and results with others on karma forum.

Scored today....pair of Klipsch Heresy II, in great condition at a thrifty price. Haven't tried them out yet, just waiting for my wife to turn her eye, then I can sneak them in.

1973 model RCA RLM50A - four band portable radio. Link to Radio Museum.
Cost me $4 at SA. I really didn't need it for anything, but it was in such a perfect cosmetic condition that couldn't just leave the store with four dollars in my pocket intead of this shiny beauty.

Yamaha CR 1020 $30 and my not so local thrifty
Nakamichi SR-2a for $30 at the same, followed by a set of Norh speakers for $5 (they didnt know quite what they were) a set of Canadan Mirages for $30. Most of my furniture is from the local thrifty too, all vintage. Sadly all the staff now know me by name and charge me either $30 or $60 for everything I look at. Regardless of the price tag. It balances out at the end of the day. Im lucky as I live in the poor area of a super affluent area of Colorado.

Not really audio gear but hands-down, far-and-away, and then some the best thrift score I ever made was an original work by the photorealist painter George Kacere.
My wife found it in a corner of a Santa Barbara thrift and thought it was an interesting painting. I agreed, so we hauled the beast home (it's 6 feet by 7 feet), whereupon I googled the guy...only to discover...wait for it...a true value in the neighborhood of $15-$20k.

Im super lucky, my office is 5 mins from a thrifty thats located in the middle of a bunch of super wealthy ski resorts/gated communities full of 2nd or 3rd 10 million dollar homes. They just throw out all the old stuff, and spend a fortune on all new which get used maybe one or two months a year. Ive missed out on some killer deals due to my financial embarrassment and ignorance. A full Marantz silver fronted set up, McIntosh shelf speakers, mint, JBL etc etc The problem is that Im still learning and never have any cash. The Norh are really knocked up, split and currently being rebuilt. Should photograph them and post really... Still love what I got!
