Gotta love the dump!

HiFi in WYO

The universe is a big place, perhaps the biggest.
So took a Mitsubishi double cassette deck to our dump today for recycling and sitting in the bin were these Advents, circa 1976. Of course the veneer is now mangled a bit from being "dumped" but couldn't resist taking them. They're filthy, but took the grills off and the surrounds look perfect, all of the paperwork is still on the back and, wait for it ------ the dust caps aren't pushed in!!!

Gotta love the dump. Bad news is, I now own six sets of speakers. My wife's gonna be happy.

Very nice save. You need to tell your wife that you HAD to save them. I have well over 4 times as many speakers than you. They are worth the effort to repair good luck

 Yep, total amateur. I feel much better when I come here. It's my opium den!

That's exactly what I'm going to tell her. I figure she has three closets worth of clothes in the house, I have one half of one ... No, that won't work.

Tell her that by keeping them out of a landfill you are helping the world stay green. And Blue. And you will be helping the Öysters stay pure. Think of the heavy metals that aren't going into the groundwater.

Hilarious. I'm hoping these do help the Öysters stay pure .... and blue!

Actually, she doesn't mind. Just rolls her eyes when I bring home more strays. I've sold a few pieces and rarely invest much, so it's not taking food from the kids, yet.

Nice to see that there are still BÖC fans in the world. Do your kids by any chance like shellfish?

Only mussels.

As am I SLZ. BÖC tends to rock the garage and mancave more than any other band in my house. Especially Tyranny and Mutation. Not sure if it will rub off on my kids - but my oldest does have a slight affinity for some "classic" rock. It's mostly Aerosmith, Queen and a couple of Van Halen tunes, but she's only 13 - there's time.

Great find! I love dumps! I found a JVC surround receiver that works perfectly that is now in my son's room cranking the Dub Step he loves.

Now, how do they sound?

6 pairs, I'm up to 10!

Don't know. Haven't taken them home yet. I'll hook them up tonight and will let you know.

I love the dump too. I get a few pieces that are too far gone, so I just take them back, they let me in, and I get to rummage again.

10 pairs? 24 pairs? This is what I should tell my wife ... see? I'm not THAT far gone :)

Yup, it's about time you start with a different numbering system. You've only got just three! quads. ..or just an Octet and a half. See you don't even have a complete score (20) yet. You need at least a score of speakers.

How could you NOT save those guys.

I am never amazed anymore what people throw away. Hell, at least take it to the SA where people can help others in some way.

Dumps are WONDROUS places.. Lots of stuff to rummage thru, treasures to bring home, Schitt to break if you feel so moved, & maybe a Rat or 2 to dispatch w/Yr Trusty .22 rifle, if you're lucky enuff to live where you can still do that. Big Fun !

Happy you catch those Advent .

At my recycling center, once it's in the bin,
you CANNOT take it, even if it's a SX-1980 within a pile of junk.

Forbidden they say.

I sometimes have a look when I go there, but just a glimpse. Do not want to see

some piece of good equipement that I cannot lay my hands on.:pity:

That sucks. What do they care? They're paying someone to recycle that stuff, it's less cost to them. Our electronics area is inside a building, with bins for TVs, printers, computers, etc. Heck, I even got "busted" by a couple of employees - talked with them for a few minutes, they agreed with me that if I could use it, take it. I think they pick there too.
