Gotta love the dump!

Madtech, that isn't yer wife offering you a beer to let her out is it ?

Yes, after she provided one more can, I let her out!

HiFi in WYO, you'll love those OLAs! Get your foams from Rick Cobb and re-cap them (I'm waiting for my ERSE caps to show up) and they'll be keepers.

Bad news is, I now own six sets of speakers. My wife's gonna be happy.

I currently have 6 sets, and have gifted at least that many. One of the guys I gifted a set of Sansui's to called me today to inform me he had just been gifted 2 sets of speakers, KLH 17's and Warfendale W60's. I of course had to go check them out. The Warf's are rough, but the 17's could be new out of the box and the tweets work perfectly. I of course will try and finagle those 17's away from him!

madtech, my wife wants to know how it is sleeping with them? :)

So, hooked them up to a couple more junk finds, a Technics SU-V16 integrated amp and a Technics SL-PD665 5-disc CD player and, wow. Turned the switches to the middle and fired up Janice and Big Brother. Summertime sounds perfect. Then threw in LA Woman - Riders on the storm sounds like a storm. Even with this little amp and some cheap wires, sound is fantastic. There's a small tear in one of the surrounds, and the cabs are beat up, but the bass is booming! Couldn't hear much difference with the switches though, and had bass and treble set at 0. But, had the loudness on.

I think you are right, they're keepers! Oh yeah, and the Sansuis SP-30 speakers I thought I sold are coming back due to lack of funds. So, back to seven pairs. Still an amateur!

When my wife gets snippy about how many sets of speakers I own, I always ask her how many purses she owns. I know it's a low blow, but it always works.

"I figure she has three closets worth of clothes in the house, I have one half of one ... No, that won't work. "

Wise man :-)

My wife is an enabler. She just turns her head and looks the other way when I bring a piece of gear home. I sure love her.

CT Jim - She's pretty good about my obsessions. Heck, I have an old car in the garage that I've been puttering around with for three years now; we have seven bicycles (one is hers and three are the kids'), two pairs of skis ... so she gets to go to Deadwood and Central City when she wants!

bobsvinyl - yep. Keep her, just keep her happy!

I envy you all. Over here they really don't grok a good dump, or a good junkyard for that matter.

And I must be very speaker challenged, I only have 3 pairs, and one pair is in pieces.

HiFi - 13 is not too late. Things get better. At 13 my son had me a bit worried, but when he got a job selling audio equip his horizons broadened. So much so that when he was 21 I gave him my entire LP collection, all 350 of them AND my TT, including one of those 5000 MFSL box sets of The Rolling Stones & 40 other half-speed masters. Now he rocks and we have a fun time sampling and discussing music.

My girlfriend ( we aren't married ) is so understandable about my addiction.

But, I tend to think about myself as a good boyfriend....

Addicted to speakers, amps and wires.

But always home after work - doing the laundry - dishes - taking care of
our only child.

I'm a very good spouse... but i'm addicted to getting more and more gear.

After moving, not sure how many sets I have now, will have to do an inventory soon, but regarding those Advents.....

The cabs may be beat up, but the drivers look to be in quite good shape overall (despite the one woofer issue that can be fixed). That "veneer" is only vinyl, so you could put a real veneer on them. I think I recall seeing a thread not long ago where someone did that with a pair and they looked excellent.

Tell her they are..... Investments 401k style & one day after you are gone they will help fund her elaborate lifestyle for years to come. :)

When/if they don't you will be safe and sound floating on rainbow clouds ;)

I did see that post, that may be in the future for them. The big thing is the busted particle board along the edges. I was thinking about wood putty, or something that will harden and allow me to put a good edge on them, then redo the veneer.

I'm usually not big on things looking perfect, as long as they're mechanically sound. I'm sure I'll get new surrounds, but haven't done one of those jobs yet. And as for caps, never tried that either. I'd hate to ruin these.

Donkey - Yeah, she makes way more money than I do, so I pretty much let her do whatever she wants. It's better for both of us :thmbsp:

Not to revive an old thread, but I was playing with the Advents yesterday, cleaning up the filth, noticed what looked like a cocoon on a surround. Just touched it, poof! A small hole opened up, about as quick as pouring gasoline on a styrofoam cup. Surrounds will be ordered!

Received the foam surround kit from SimplySpeakers. No issues, surrounds were not folded. Followed their good video on youtube and, voila, new surrounds!

That was a first for me, but simple process, just take your time and make sure they're clean. No issues!

(and yeah, my wife wants to redo our (her) bedroom closet this winter. Somehow, I think I'll end up with even less space!)
