Grabbed This Scott 1964 340-B today for $125 Works Great

The look is "next evolution" Scott, but I think it looks great.

When I found mine,I almost passed on it because of the look; I thought it was solid state!
It was up on a shelf,and you could not see the top or sides of the unit. Man,am I glad I made the effort to look

I did a restore on my 340B some time back--the thread is posted on this forum if it's any help. Had to do a couple 'special' things, too--particularly re-glue the black velvet on the dial backing that was coming loose and hindering the movement of the dial needle. Info on knobs and knob caps, biasing, etc. Good luck with yours and keep us posted!

I have 5 Sylvania 12ax7s from the late 50s that are NOS and four NOS Westinghouse House 7591s from around 1964 I was going to use.

As to the tubes that are currently in the unit are any of them branded "HHScott"? the reason I ask is that, for example, of the handful of Webcor units I've come across most of their tubes were branded "Webcor" but were in fact Mullards. I've also seen plenty of Magnavox branded tubes that were Mullards too

So I'm just curious as to what manufacturer the branded "HHScott" tubes actually are or if they are branded at all.

Do you folks that own one use the built in phono preamp or use an external preamp? Wasn't sure which was better and haven't experimented seems the onboard preamp is pretty robust.

You lucky guy! Been wanting one for some time... The price of yours is really good.

Love the phono section of my LK-72 and my 222D so it should be more than ok.

Aren't the 7591´s rebranded Westinghouse? And probably Tele or Americans for the small tubes.

Yes the originals are HH Scott branded. The 12ax7s appear to be Sylvania and the 7591s look just like my Westinghouse. The non originals I found are GE Electrons.

Thanks for the info! I've uncovered several threads on refurbing this receiver doing some searches. Some absolutely incredible information here! As far as the price I spotted the ad at like 11:45pm and couldn't sleep all night. I had to keep checking to see if he raised it or if it disappeared. Finally I figured 8am is polite enough to call. Had he not have misspelled Scott I think it would have been gone in hours. It probably didn't show up in searches or for people that had alerts setup. Got lucky for once.

I hope you soon make the unit ‘As Safe as Yesterday Is.’ Friends of mind used to live in the Essex house where he lived. Not sure if it’s the same one he died in. A very sad loss.
